Answer» Causes and effects of smoking Explanation: Most people who smoke tobacco start during their teenage years or as a young adult. There are many reasons why a person starts to smoke. For some teens, it is a way to rebel against their parents. Nicotine is the main addictive substance in cigarettes and other forms of tobacco. Nicotine is a drug that affects many parts of your body, including your brain. Over time, your body and brain get used to having nicotine in them. About 90% of people who smoke regularly are addicted to nicotine. Smoking causes CANCER, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes. Smoking also increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases, and problems of the immune system, including rheumatoid arthritis. Smoking cigarettes affects lung health because a person BREATHES in not only nicotine but also a variety of additional chemicals. Cigarettes are responsible for a substantial increase in the risk of developing lung cancer. Even one cigarette now and then might hurt your social life too. Social smoking means the people you’re with are exposed to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoke is dangerous to anyone who breathes it in. If you want to stop smoking, you can make small changes to your lifestyle that may help you resist the temptation to light up. Keep reminding yourself why you made the decision to give up. Smokers also REALISE that they spend a lot of MONEY on cigarettes. |
