Sub: Increasing Suicide Cases ofFarmers and Some Suggestions

I am writing to your good self toexpress my deep anguish over the problem of increasing cases of suicide bydeb-trapped farmers. Approximately 12000 farmers commit suicide every yearowing to debts. This is a very sorry state. These suicides are blemish on ourcountry. How can we claim to be a progressive nation if farmers, the foodproducers keep committing suicides like this.

The Governments at the state andcentral level must look into it and take prompt measures to curb thesesuicides. The Government must have a system to track and identify farmers whoseeconomic condition is very poor and debts and loans of such farmers shouldeither be exempted or repayment time should be extended. Middle men that don’tlet the farmers sell the crops in the market should be gotten rid ofsystematically. In order to promote the sale of indigenous crops, theGovernment should restrict import of foreign crops and pulses. Kindly give myideas some space in your reputed daily.
