Question : List all the wastes that you generates at home, school or during your trip to other places you could very easily reduce waste. Which would be difficult or rather impossible to reduce? |
|
Answer» Solution :1. List yourself 2. YES. We can REDUCE most of the waste we produce by proper management we can separate waste as BIODEGRADABLE and non degradable. We must reduce the use of non-biodegradable waste items. |

Question : List all the wastes that you generate at home, school or during your trips to other places. Could you very easily reduce the generation of these wastes ? Which would be difficult or rather impossible to reduce ? |
|
Answer» Solution :Plastic containers, paper, electronic goods, left over food, food package, disposable glasses, CUP plates, polythenes, excreta, soap and detergent waste are the wastes that one can generate at home, school or during trips to other places. Yes, we can easily reduce waste through judicious USE of MATERIAL by changing our habits & life styles. Out of these, polythene and plastic material are hard to dispose off as they are non- BIODEGRADABLE and they can be RECYCLED back. |

Question : Is the term clone applicable to the offspring formed by vegetative reproduction ? Site two reasons for this. |
|
Answer» SOLUTION :Clone term can be used for the OFFSPRINGS produced through VEGETATIVE reproduction because : There is single parent involved. Only mitosis takes place, so OFFSPRING are true copy of its parent. Hence it can be called as clone. |

Question : List all the wasts that you generate, at home, school or during your trips to other places. Could you very easily reduce the generation of these wastes? Which would be difficult or rather impossible to reduce? |
Answer» Solution :![]() Yes, we can reduce the generation of DAILY wastes in our life. For example, using jute/cloth bags instead of plastic bags, using the plastic DRUM as flower pots ETC. E-wastes and plastic wastes are GENERALLY DIFFICULT to biodegradation. |

Question : Is the presence of large number of chromosomes in an organism a hindrance to sexual reproduction ? Justify your answer by giving suitable reasons. |
|
Answer» Solution :No, presence of LARGE number of chromosomes in an organism is not a hindrance to sexual reproduction. Ophioglossum (a fern) has chromosome number 1269, still it can reproduce SEXUALLY. In higher organisms, the chromosomes are present in a compartment CALLED nucleus, within the CELL. WHETHER the number is small or large, the chromosomes are duplicated and then segregated inside this compartment, during cell division. The basis of sexual reproduction is generation of haploid gametes. |

Question :Linkage and crossing-over of genes are alternatives of each other. Justify with the help of an example. |
|
Answer» Solution : Crossing over : The breaking during meiosis of one maternal and one paternal chromosome, the exchange of corresponding sections of DNA, and the rejoining of the chromosomes. This process can result in an exchange of alleles between chromosome. Linkage in Fruit Files : It is the PROXIMITY of two or more genes on a chromosome , the closer the ganes, the lower the probability that they will be separated during meiosis and hence the GREATER the probability that they will be inherited together. An example of using linkage to explore GENE position is provided by inheritance of eye color and baby color in fruit flies, both of which are located on the X chromosome. This example begins with purebred (homozygous) parents, one yellow-bodied and red-eyed, the other grey-bodied and white-eyed. They mate to product all hetrozygous daughters, who carry the yellow-red combination on one homologous chromosome and the grey-white combination on the other. When the heterozygotes CREATE gametes, the eye-color allles cannot assort independently from the body- color alleles because they are linked. |
