अनूप – वाह, क्या मस्त ठंडी हवा है। प्रकृति ने ग्रीष्म ऋतु में गर्मी दी है तो ऐसी ठंडी हवा भी दी है।

मंजुल- अरे, यह बगीचा चारों तरफ खुला है, इसलिए अच्छा लगता है। फिर, ठंडी हवा भी रोज और हरदम नहीं चलती। घर में ए.सी. न हो तो मैं रात में सो ही नहीं सकता। सचमुच ए.सी. के रूप में विज्ञान हमारे लिए वरदान है।

संजय – अरे ए.सी. ही क्यों, विज्ञान ने ही हमें बिजली की रोशनी दी है। बिजली से ही पंखे चलते हैं, फ्रीज में चीजें सुरक्षित रहती हैं। ठंडी में नहाने के लिए गर्म पानी करनेवाला गीजर भी बिजली से ही चलता है। लिफ्ट भी बिजली से ही चलती है।

मंजुल – सिनेमा, टीवी, टेलीफोन, मोबाइल, कम्प्यूटर, लेपटोप आदि भी विज्ञान की अद्भुत खोजें हैं।

गौरव – अरे विज्ञान के गुण गानेवालों, यह क्यों भूल जाते हो कि ये बम, मिसाइलें, तरह-तरह के ड्रग्स भी विज्ञान के ही आविष्कार हैं। बम-विस्फोटों से जान-माल की जो भयंकर हानि हो रही है, वह विज्ञान का शाप नहीं तो और क्या है?

अनूप – हाँ, इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि विज्ञान ने मानव के विनाश के साधनों का भी आविष्कार किया है। इस अर्थ में वह अवश्य शाप है, परंतु उसने तरह-तरह की सुविधाएँ भी दी हैं। विनाश के साथ उसने हमें विकास के साधन भी दिए हैं।

मंजुल-देखो भाई, हर सिक्के के दो पहलू होते हैं। अच्छाइयों के साथ बुराइयाँ सब में होती हैं। फूलों के राजा गुलाब में भी काँटे होते हैं।

संजय – इसका मतलब यही है कि विज्ञान यदि वरदान है, तो शाप भी है। परंतु उसके वरदान इतने हैं कि उसके शापों पर जल्दी ध्यान ही नहीं जाता।

मंजुल- कुछ भी हो आज के मनुष्य के लिए तो विज्ञान वरदान ही है।

बड़े भाई साहब ने उस समय की शिक्षा प्रणाली में जिन कमियों की ओर संकेत किया है उनमें मुख्य हैं-एक ही परीक्षा द्वारा छात्रों का मूल्यांकन अर्थात् वार्षिक परीक्षा के परिणाम पर ही छात्रों का भविष्य निर्भर करता था। इस प्रणाली से रटने की प्रवृत्ति को बढ़ावा मिलता था। इसमें छात्रों के अन्य पहलुओं के मूल्यांकन की न तो व्यवस्था थी और न उन्हें महत्त्व दिया जाता था। इसके अलावा परीक्षकों का दृष्टिकोण भी कुछ ऐसा था कि वे छात्रों से उस तरह के उत्तर की अपेक्षा करते थे जैसा पुस्तक में लिखा है। किताब से उत्तर अलग होते ही शून्य अंक मिल जाते थे। यद्यपि इन कारणों से ही भाई साहब अपने फेल होने का दोष परीक्षा प्रणाली पर नहीं डाल सकते हैं। वे खुद भी तो समझकर पढ़ने के बजाय रटकर पढ़ते थे जो उनके फेल होने का कारण बनी। इस तरह भाई साहब के विचारों से मैं सहमत नहीं हूँ। पास होने के लिए उन्हें विषयों को समझकर पढ़ने की जरूरत होती है जो उन्होंने नहीं किया।

भाई साहब शिक्षा को जीवन के लिए अत्यंत महत्त्वपूर्ण मानते थे। ऐसे महत्त्वपूर्ण मामलों में वे जल्दबाजी करने के पक्षधर न थे। उनका मानना था कि जिस प्रकार एक मजबूत मकान बनाने के लिए मजबूत नींव की जरूरत होती है उसी प्रकार शिक्षा की नींव मजबूत बनाने के लिए वे एक-एक कक्षा में दो-दो, तीन साल लगाते थे।

बड़े भाई साहब दिमाग को आराम देने के लिए कभी कापी पर वे कभी किताब के हाशियों पर चिड़ियों, कुत्तों, बिल्लियों के चित्र बनाते थे। कभी-कभी वे एक शब्द या वाक्य को अनेक बार लिख डालते, कभी एक शेर-शायरी की बार-बार सुंदर अक्षरों में नकल करते। कभी ऐसी शब्द रचना करते, जो निरर्थक होती, कभी किसी आदमी को चेहरा बनाते।

If the roads were not cleared, they would have to face many problems. They would not go to their work places in time. They would have to walk long distances. They would have many health problems.

According to the deer, their young ones were dying due to the injury from the sharp broken objects from the waste dumped in the forest.

Many animals who drank the water polluted by chemicals and poisons fell ill and died.

The animals and birds complained about man dumping all his waste in their dwelling place, the forests due to which trees are dying and vanishing and birds are losing their place to roost and nest. Their young ones get injured due to sharp objects and die due to lack of medical help. All the fish in the river and lakes die because of waste dumped in water. The chemicals and poisonous waste lead to illness and death in the animals.

The people in the play neither had their newspaper delivered on time nor did their milkman turn up.

The animals confessed that they had brought in all the litter and that they had spread the garbage all over the town.

Waste can be removed or cleared by having a good waste management plan. We should sort out waste of which some can be processed while the rest can be recycled. Our mantra should be : Reduce! Reuse! Recycle! Restore!

Environmental pollution is a serious problem faced by us today. The ill-effects of all types of pollution, namely air, water, soil and sound are extremely harmful. It not only destroys the plants and animals but they have a disastrous effect on man too.

Cancer, respiratory illnesses, heart trouble are just a few of the many illnesses which are caused due to pollution Thus, we can say that pollution spoils the quality of the environment, affects human life, and renders the soil unfit for cultivation of crops. So, it is very important to control pollution which is one of the causes of the depletion of the ozone layer. So let us control pollution and thereby reduce its impact.

Waste is generated when we dispose or throw away things we no longer need. Waste can be generated at home and in industries.

After walking for an hour, the travellers saw before them a great ditch that crossed the road and divided the forest

1. Dorothy is the girl who was whisked by the cyclone. She is whisked along with her dog Toto. Both of them land in the wonderful Land of Oz. She is friendly by nature. She is sweet and simple.

2. Tin Woodman has come to the wonderful Land of Oz. He needs a heart. He knows that only the Wizard of Oz can help him out. He helps in the journey to the land of Oz. He uses his axe to chop a tree to create a bridge for his friends. He also helps in putting an end to the snarling brutes.

3. The Scarecrow wants brains from the Wizard of Oz. He feels he lacks brains. He proves to be intelligent when he gives ideas to escape from difficulties.

4. The cowardly lion makes friends with Dorothy. He says that he lacks bravery. He wishes the Wizard of Oz to give him courage. Though he is a coward, he proves himself courageous in many situations and helps the others with him.

On the other side of the broad river, the travellers could see the road of yellow brick running through a beautiful country. The green meadows were dotted with bright flowers and the road was bordered with trees bearing delicious fruits.

The strange noises that the travellers heard coming from the depths of the forest added to the discomfort of the travellers.

The travellers walked for an hour in the forest when they came across a great ditch that divided the forest. They could not proceed. The ditch was wide and steep. It had jagged rocks at the bottom. Scarecrow comes up with an idea. He requested the lion to carry everyone one by one on his back and jump to the other side of the ditch. The lion was successful in doing this. In this way the travellers crossed the first ditch.

After crossing the first gulf I ditch, the travellers travelled some distance and came across another gulf which was broader and deeper than the first ditch/ gulf. It was impossible for the lion to jump across. The Scarecrow came up with an idea. He asked Tin Woodman to chop the tree near the ditch, in such a way that it fell across the gulf creating a bridge. The travellers successfully crossed this gulf too.

A sharp growl made the travellers look up when they started crossing the bridge.

The cowardly lion helped the travellers cross the ditch.

The Scarecrow asked Tin Woodman to chop down the great tree standing close to the ditch so that it would fall across the gulf and the travellers would be able to walk across it easily to the other side.

The travellers saw two great beasts with bodies like bears and heads like tigers running towards them.

The Wizard of Oz, was the only person who could help the travellers to get what they needed.
