Find the effective value of current. `i=2 sin 100 (pi)t + 2 cos (100 pi t + 30^(@))`.A. `sqrt(2)A`B. `2sqrt(2+sqrt(3))`C. 4D. `2sqrt(2)A` |
Answer» Correct Answer - A Equation can be written as `i=2 sin 100 pit+2 sin(100pit+120^(@))` so phase difference `phi=120^(@)` `=sqrt(A_(1)^(2)+A_(2)^(2)+2A_(1)A_(2)cos phi)` `=sqrt(4+4+2xx2xx2(-1/2))=2` so effective value will rms. Value =`2//sqrt(2)=sqrt(2)A` |

What is overloading of an electric circuit. State two conditions that can lead to overloading of circuit. How can it be prevented |
Answer» The current in a circuit depends on the rating of the appliances connected to it. The choice of wires depends upon the maximum current estimated to pass through them. If the total power rating of the appliances exceeds this permitted limit, they tend to draw a large current. This is known as overloading. (i) the live wire and neutral wire come in direct contact Before the wires can overheat, the fuse or circuit breaker will open, shutting off the flow of current. Move plug-in appliances to a circuit that is less-used Remember not to turn on too many things at once. Reduce lighting loads by replacing incandescent or halogen light bulbs with energy-efficient LED (preferably) or CFL (fluorescent) bulbs. |

State any three limitations of National Power. |
Answer» The international relations among the states are often accompanied by the mechanics of power. But, the nation’s power is not absolute. They are limited by a number of factors: 1. Balance of Power: By this principle, sizeable restriction is placed on the power of a state. The existence of a number of powers in the international arena automatically limits the power. 2. International Law: International law operates as a body of rules having binding character on the nation states. As such, it limits the power of nation. 3. International Morality: A set of norms valued by the international society also acts as limitation of power. Even though they are neither codified, nor binding, they enjoy great sanctity. Certain values like peace, equality, mutual respect etc. remain core element of international relations. 4. International Organizations: Agency like U.N. remains a check on growing preponderance of power. Through its activities it checks and balances power of nations in the international relations. 5. World Public Opinion: This aspect has acquired prominence in recent times like the anti-Vietnam war protests and peace movements have revealed what people can do in international relations. States can no longer remain aloof from the public opinion. |

Explain the consequences of the Sino-Indian War of 1962. |
Answer» The Sino-Indian War between China and India occurred in October–November 1962. A disputed Himalayan border was the main cause of the war. There had been a series of violent border skirmishes between the two countries after the 1959 Tibetan uprising, when India granted asylum to the Dalai Lama. India initiated a defensive Forward Policy from 1960 to hinder Chinese military patrols and logistics, in which it placed outposts along the border, including several north of the McMahon Line, the eastern portion of the Line of Actual Control proclaimed by Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1959. Chinese military action grew increasingly aggressive after India rejected proposed Chinese diplomatic settlements throughout 1960–1962, with China re-commencing previously-banned "forward patrols" in Ladakh from 30 April 1962. China finally abandoned all attempts of peaceful resolution on 20 October 1962, invading disputed territory along the 3,225 kilometres (2,004 mi) long Himalayan border in Ladakh and across the McMahon Line. Chinese troops pushed back Indian forces in both theatres, capturing Rezang La in Chushul in the western theatre, as well as Tawang in the eastern theatre. The war ended when China declared a ceasefire on 20 November 1962, and simultaneously announced its withdrawal to its claimed "Line of Actual Control". Much of the fighting took place in harsh mountain conditions, entailing large-scale combat at altitudes of over 4,000 metres (13,000 feet). The Sino-Indian War was also notable for the lack of deployment of naval and aerial assets by either China or India. As the Sino-Soviet split heated up, Moscow made a major effort to support India, especially with the sale of advanced MiG fighter-aircraft. The United States and Britain refused to sell advanced weaponry to India, causing it to turn to the Soviet Union. |

A circular platform is free to rotate in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis passing through its centre. A tortoise is sitting at the edge of the platform. Now, the platform is given an angular velocity ω0. When the tortoise moves along a chord of the platform with a constant velocity (with respect to the platform), the angular velocity of the platform ω(t) will vary with time t as |
Answer» Correct Answer is: (b) The angular momentum (L) of the system is conserved, i.e., L = Iω = constant. When the tortoise walks along a chord, it first moves closer to the centre and then away from the centre. Hence, I first decreases and then increases. As a result, ω will first increase and then decrease. Also, the change in ω will be a nonlinear function of time. |

A wooden block, with a coin placed on its top, floats in water, as shown in the figure. The distances l and h are shown there. After some time the coin falls into the water. Then (a) l decreases and h increases (b) l increases and h decreases (c) both l and h increase (d) both l and h decrease |
Answer» Correct Answer is: (d) both l and h decrease When the coin slips into the water, the wooden block moves up and l decreases. When the coin was floating, it displaced water equal to its own weight. When inside the water, it displaces water equal to its own volume. As its density is greater than that of water, it displaced more water in the first case. Hence, h decreases when it falls into the water. |

Answer» Correct Answer - B Acceleration of boy and block will be same equal to `1.25m//s^(2) w.r.t.` ground. Hence `10=(1)/(2)(1.25)t^(2)` `rArr t=4sec.` |

A wire of resistance 2 ohms per meter is bent to form a circle of radius 1m. The equivalent resistance between its two diametricaly opposite points is |
Answer» When a resistance is bent in a circle, the resistors are are connected in parallel. Each of the resistors (the 2 parallel resistors of the circle) have a resistance of 2 ohms. So we get the following- Req = R1 x R2 / R1R2 (where Req is equivalent resistance in parallel connections) OR 1/Rp =1/R1 + 1/R2 ( where Rp is resistance in parallel ) 1/Rp = 1/2 + 1/2 1/Rp = 2/2 1/Rp = 1 Rp = 1 ohm. |

One- half of a convex lens is covered with a black paper. Will this lens produce a complete image of the object? If yes, why? |
Answer» If one - half of the convex lens is covered with a black paper then also will produce a complete image because a image is formed by many rays of light and for formation of image only two rays of lights are sufficient. But the intensity of light of light will get decreased due to which the image will look less brighter . As the image is formed by a large number of rays from the object, so if any part of the lens is covered, the image will form. The brightness of image will be less compared to the image formed without wrapping the lens. |
