1.

When is an object said to be weightless

Answer»

Weightlessness is a condition when your body is in free fall and the acceleration is downward at gravity. This condition can be defined by the term zero gravity. So weightlessness occurs when there is zero support of force on our body.

5.

Can a body have zero velocity, still accelerating?

Answer»

Yes.
When a body is at highest point of motion, its velocity is zero but acceleration is equal to acceleration due to gravity.

6.

What is the acceleration of train travelling at 40ms-1 as it goes round a curve of 160m radius?

7.

A bullet is fired with a velocity ‘u’ at an angle ‘θ’ with the horizontal such that it moves under the effect of gravity.1. What is the nature of its trajectory.2. Arrive at an expression for time of flight of the bullet.3. What is the relation between time of ascent and time of decent, when air resistance is neglected.How the relation is affected when air resistance . is considered.

Answer»

1. Parabola

2. The time taken by the projectile to cover the horizontal range is called the time of flight.

Time of flight of projectile is decided by usinθ. The time of flight can be found using the formula s = ut + 1/2 at2

Taking vertical displacement s = 0, a = -g and initial vertical velocity = usinθ, we get

0 = usinθt – 1/2gt2

1/2 gt2 = usinθt

t = \(\frac{2usinθ}{g}\).

3. Time of ascent = time of descent

4. Time of descent > time of ascent

A projectile is an object projected into air with a velocity V so that it is moving under the influence of gravity. 1. What is the shape of the path of projectile?2. As a projectile moves in its path, is there any point along the path where the velocity and acceleration vectors are perpendicular to each other 3. If E is energy with a projectile is projected.(i) What is the Kinetic energy at the highest point. (ii) What is P.E at highest point?

Answer»

1. Parabola

2. Yes, highest point

3. Energy with a projectile is projected:

(i) Kinetic energy Ek = 1/2mv2

Velocity at the highest point = Vcosθ

∴ K.E. at highest point = 1/2m(Vcosθ)2

= 1/2 mv2cos2θ

K.E. = Ek cos2θ

(ii) Potential energy at highest point,

P.E. = mgh

How is discharge printing done? Why is it not widely used?

Answer»

Fabrics are generally dyed in a solid color, prior to printing; the design is applied by screen or roller with a chemical This reducing agent will destroy the color in the printed portion and white background will appear in the printed area.

Discharge Prints are not widely used due to following reasons:

•Production is more costly than direct print because fabric is to be dyed prior to printing.

•Very careful and precise process control is required.

Answer»

Duplex Prints

43.

Distinguish between the direct style and discharge style of printing?

Answer»

The discharge Style: in the early part of the nineteenth century it was discovered , that it was possible by chemical means to bleach out or ‘discharge’ a pattern from an already piece-dyed cloth . This discharging process enabled fairly intricate and fine patterns to be printed, giving the effect of resist dyeing.

The direct style: Until the advent of chemically produced dyestuffs there was very little direct printing. The exceptions were almost all pigment colours. These colours, unlike dyestuffs which stain the fibre of the cloth, merely coat the outside of each warp and weft thread, which comes in contact while printing.

47.

What is meant by Geometric Prints?

Answer»

Geometric prints comprises of designs made with circles, triangles, square, spirals and stars.

48.

Discuss any one of the following in details: i. Block Printing ii. Screen Printing

Answer»

(1) Block Printing:- Block printing is the oldest form of printing where-in a wooden block with a raised pattern on the surface is dipped into the printing colorant and then pressed down on to fabric to achieve design on the fabric. In Block printing , the pattern is generated by repeating the process of block application on the fabric. For a design of four colours, four separate blocks are developed. Due to manual process, this printing is time consuming and provide flexibility of changing the pattern placement.

(2) Screen Printing:- This style of printing is popular because of wider scope for achieving desired results. In this technique, the printing paste passes through a fine fabric stretched on a wooden or metal frame. The design is created in reverse on the screen by blocking areas of the screen with light sensitive chemical. The screen is then placed over the fabric and the printing paste is forced through the open areas of the screen using a flexible synthetic rubber or steel blade. It is done either with flat of cylindrical screens made of mild threads, nylon, polyester, or metal. Based on the type of the screen used, it is known as ‘Flat Screen Printing’ or ‘ Rotary Screen Printing’.
