Solve : N band Router? |
Answer» Hi. ...1. Since N CAME after G, it's the other way around, i.e. N is compatible with G & with earlier B. 2. Agreed, too many choices. Look for Wifi 300Mbps, higher will be more expensive. Your adapters may only connect at 150Mbps.Are you looking for better reliability or more speed? Have you READ some articles like this? http://compnetworking.about.com/u/ua/wireless80211/80211n-upgrades-for-speed-and-reliability.htm That post was followed by many comments. Do have any idea why your network has POOR reliability? I think its just getting throttled because of the g router. Will have to get an n router at some point. Reliability has improved since switching back to the netgear DG834g, (was using a D-link 2640R) but the signal quality is still pretty dismal. |

Solve : Have all-in 1 pc and screen is not coming on? |
Answer» I have an all in 1 pc (dell vostro 330) - the screen is not responding all tho the pc does make the usual noises when starting up. Went to connect it to an external screen to see if it was working ok and discovered it doesn't seem to have any ports to connect to any other screen !!!!! Now don't know what to do to test it. Any help would be great! thanksThey make USB VGA adapters which are not too expensive. But it sounds like the display itself is probably toast and if the USB VGA adapter requires more than just Plug n Play to get it to work such as going through a driver installation with choices you might not be able to get that far.

Solve : Battery or Charger?? |
Answer» I've got a laptop that's been shelved for a while (a few years). As you may have guessed the battery is not functional. I can buy a new one but I want to be sure (ish) that the battery is the PROBLEM. Windows doesn't recognise the battery as being present but is that just because the battery is so far gone that it can't be electricaly detected? My knowledge on laptop batteries is some what out of date but as far as I'm aware there is no microchip in the battery. It is just a collection of battery cells in a pretty case. I've got a laptop that's been shelved for a whileYes, second opinion. Exactly, third opinion. Quote from: Accessless on June 25, 2013, 12:27:06 PM My knowledge on laptop batteries is some what out of date but as far as I'm aware there is no microchip in the battery. It is just a collection of battery cells in a pretty case. Just to add to the above (yes, it'll just be the battery that's dead, very common when they're stored and not charged or sued for a period of time) there is a chip in the battery. It's not particularly high tech, but it's the same principle as any semi modern phone batteries - to REPORT charge levels, prevent overcharging, and often wear level too. |

Solve : CPU for Triple Monitors? |
Answer» I am currently running a triple monitor setup and can run almost all of my games with them, but there are some that I can't. I have one Radeon 7950 3gb and an Intel Core i5-2400 @3.1ghz. One of the games I would like to run is Battlefield 3. I think that I am unable to run the BF3 because of my processor so if I were to overclock my processor up to 3.4ghz would that be enough? If so I currently just have the stock cpu fan on so I would need to get a cpu fan so if someone could recommend a cheap quality fan. Also would getting an SSD help?If the game works fine on a single monitor then your problem is most likely your GPU and not your CPU. Your CPU should have plenty power to run games, while overclocking will improve performance your CPU has a locked MULTIPLIER so cannot be safely overclocked. What resolution monitors do you have? |

Answer» okay ive tried for hours to get this thing going but i just cant. So i bought a new graphics card and power supply, I put in the new card and powersupply and the computer would start up and shut down in about 2 seconds. I then rewired some stuff and put in my old card, it now boots up but regardless of the setting i choose (safe mode, last succesful RECOVERY, etc.) it just goes to a black screen with my cursor. I ALSO cannot get it to respond to f11 at the start up screen to perform a system recovery. I dont have the vista DISK so i cant REINSTALL that way. any possible fix ?What model is you PC? Solve : Qosmio G35-AV600 ... Looking for affordable display replacement? |
Answer» I have a Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV600 Laptop that was given to me in used running condition, BUT the display has a few verticle hairlines on it. Plugged VGA out into VGA monitor and the lines are only on the laptops display so the display must be the cause. Worst comes worst, I can get buy with the lines, but would be nice to fix this inexpensively since its not worth much today compared to its $2400 price tag when it was new! Do the lines really annoy you?Quote Do the lines really annoy you? Its like driving a car with a cracked windshield with about 3 or 4 cracks. If you drive long enough your brain blocks it out, until you drive into the sunlight or into oncoming headlights and it is more defined similar to the laptops display of which they are more noticable when gaming and the games environment is dark etc, while if surfing the web or working on a document with a white background there are TIMES when you no longer notice them. The fix of adding an external monitor is like the movie Ace Ventura with Jim Carrey driving with his head out the window instead of viewing the road through a bad windshield in his navy blue early 1970s Chevy Monte Carlo. Even though this laptop has a bummed battery that only lasts up to 10 minutes, is purpose would be like a portable desktop with a UPS that last just 10 minutes for gaming with friends at DIABLO 2 and UT99 lan PARTIES etc which the hardware is perfectly spec'd for awesome gaming performance with GeForce 7300 Mobile GPU. *This laptop would choke on modern games, but its perfect for games of its time period/ release DATE 2006 and prior games. Figured I'd post here in case someone knew of a place I haven't found to buy good used laptop displays. As you stated its a large display which generally comes at a premium, but a display that only works for obsolete laptops is not very valuable unless there is a demand. If it were a desktop computer display that worked among just about any computer and high definition and lightning fast refresh and in demand, then i could see a realistic price tag, but the $305 for an obsolete display for a laptop made in 2006 is fishing for a rare catch, in which the rare catch is someone who actually will pay $305 for the display and pay or take the time to install it on top of that. This laptop if it was running healthy without issues I'd say it would be worth less than $200 since a Core 2 Duo 1.83Ghz and 2GB RAM with 160GB of IDE Hard Drive space is slow. The 3 features i like about this laptop is the audio quality, TV Capture built in, and its nice and thick and not flimsy.Maybe so. On eBay you can get a NEW 17 inch LCD for much less. Quote New 17" WXGA+But for about $160 you get the whole laptop! Of course, buying on eBay has some issues. I always use Ebay for screens, I generally find they're the best price. I see a screen on Ebay UK for £70, haven't checked Ebay US though. I always buy from a decent business seller, so I have a warranty and good returns policy in case the screen isn't as described. I've had 0 problems so far in 15-20 screen replacements though. |

Solve : BIOS Screen Crash? |
Answer» Whenever I unplug the computer altogether, press the power button to get any power out of it, plug it back in, and power it up, it gets to the operating system just fine. When I shut it down and turn it back on, however, it hangs on the BIOS screen. Do any of my fellow computing fans have any suggestions? I am hoping this will not require replacing the power supply unit or any other components. I would like to have this computer working flawlessly before selling it, and this is the last major problem that I can find with it. Thank you for your time!Quote I am hoping this will not require replacing the power supply unit or any other components. The best troubleshooting method for process of elimination is to replace potentially troubled parts with known good parts and examine if the problem remains or not. While some problems are as simple as not requiring parts to be replaced such as if you had a jumper accidentally across the CMOS reset and keep losing settings and no battery has to be replaced, most problems require something to be replaced or repaired to TROUBLESHOOT or to repair the problem. An old 1950s television repair guy once told me when asked how he troubleshot and what methods he used, that he would drive to the peoples homes with a van full of tubes, resistors, capacitors, switches, etc, and 99% of the time when dealing with a strange problem, the problem was resolved by just swapping out 1 tube at a time from the sockets to see if the problem was resolved when something strange was reported and observed and it wasnt the direct result of 1 tube that controlled say just the audio etc. He could be there all day with test equipment trying to pinpoint the exact part that was bad or he could use process of elimination and have a solution in under an hour. It could be Power Supply or Main Board. Only way to troubleshoot this would be to swap out the PSU and see if the problem remains. If the problem remains then its likely a main board ( motherboard issue ). Is there a specific part of the POST in which the system is hanging such as memory test or hard drive initialization etc to where you know to check the memory or hard drive for issues. There are portions of the main board such as WOL, Soft Power, and other features that operate on most modern computers when they are off and power is still CONNECTED to power supply. These systems will show a lit LED for Network Adapter and sometimes the motherboard will have an LED or two to show its state. I had a high end gaming motherboard about 5 years ago that even had a built in POST Diagnostic LED display and at rest with the computer off it showed a alpha-numeric code which pretty much stated in the code cross reference that the system was at rest waiting to be powered up.The CMOS battery was one of the problems, actually. It seemed to not be keeping the time until I replaced it. I don't have any other power supply units lying around for testing that out. Maybe I will buy a new one sometime. That's interesting. I purchased this computer from someone who repaired televisions from the seventies to the nineties. Thank you for your response! Then just swap some tubes in there...1 at a time.If its a Steampunk Case Mod.... then that MIGHT be a solution... Was looking for the pic I SAW a few months back of a Nixie Clock in an old XT case that someone was using as a HTPC. The Nixie Clock used up one or two 5.25" bay slots. Funny that you got the pc from an old tv repair guy. [recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin] |

Solve : SMART event: Hard Drive might fail? |
Answer» Hi ...I ran DiskCheckUp again today and Reallocated Sector Count is down to 13 so I guess that means imminent HDD fail? Would really appreciate any pointers on how to copy everything (BIOS, OS, Office etc) from existing HDD to a new one...I work on my neighbor's 1525 from time to time. I have been unable to create a Macrium image probably due to similar hard drive corruption. I know it's a Toshiba 160GB, SATA. You really want to image the entire drive, so you don't loose the hidden Dell partiions which contain Tools & Disk Restore. BIOS is not contained on the HD, but the tools to access it are on one of the hidden partitions. The Disk Restore partition is only needed to return the computer to the "as shipped" condition. If Macrium is still giving you issues...i think this isn't the 1st time...shoot me a PM as i use it as my primary backup now... Acronis wanted me to re-up...and i was kinda put off by that since i've been USIN it for over 10 years and recommending it here regularly...I use Macrium on my own computers. Only had problems with USB3.0 HD not being recognized in Linux distro and WinPE restore discs and bootable flash. Latest version fixed Linux, but had to manually copy Windows 3.0 drivers into proper folder for WinPE. It took Macrium a long time to update the Linux distro for USB3.0 support. I had no issues with my backup USB2.0 HD.Thanks for all the advice - took me while to figure everything out but managed to mirror to an external drive using Macrium, install a new (larger) HDD and all's working great. The old HDD was seconds away from giving up the ghost so just in time... Take care all. AGood News indeed... |

Solve : Recovering Data off broken external hard drive??? |

Answer» I have an external hard drive that is a few years old. One day it just stopped working. I do not want to pay $300 to have geek squad recover the information. I have read on various websites that i can remove the drive from the case and install it directly into my DESKTOP. The issue im having is that my new desktop uses the SATA and my external hard drive uses the ATA cable. Solve : Motherboard Northbridge Problem? |
Answer» My daughter has had problems with her PC and i've eventually got it to my house. First thing i noticed when i opened it up was the heat-sink for the north-bridge was loose. On closer inspection, i found that the hook that is on the motherboard, which the spring arm on the heat sink clips under, had come loose. Now this is loose is there any way that i can secure it or the heat sink will not sit......I don't know of a safe way to secure it back properly, I would suggest getting some thermal adhesive (like thermal paste but it sticks the chip to the heatsink) to hold the heatsink on. Arctic Ceramique is one such product. As a cheap workaround, I have in the past used thermal paste as normal but with a dot of superglue at each corner of the heatsink - the edges transfer the least heat so the superglue doesn't harm heat transfer too much there, and that should hold the heatsink down. I was thinking of superglueing the hook back onto the motherboard, but i know some glues may harm/melt the motherboard plastic. May go with the thermal paste and glue option though. The PC sits flat and the heatsink would not be upright. You could try that but my concern would be whether the glue would hold the hook down strongly enough, there's usually quite a bit of force holding the heatsink down and there's only a small contact area for the glue to hold. Plus, as you say, I'm unsure whether it would damage the board, I personally wouldn't want to try it.What about Thermal paste on the chip and a thermal adhesive to 'glue' the heat sink down??Thermal adhesive is basically thermal paste, it just sets in place whereas thermal paste doesn't. It's different from glue in that it transfers heat better. So, if i just use Thermal adhesive, will that do the job? I've read on various other sites that some have thread fuse wire through the holes (that the hook/clip slots into) and create a loop from that. Others bent the spring arms on the heat sink to fit other hooks on the board (there are 4, but only 2 adjacent one are used). I'm still unsure about what to do for the best, but if Thermal adhesive will hold it in place, i think i may go for that.......Thermal adhesive should do the job fine, it'll come with instructions but you generally have to hold it in place for a few minutes, then it'll set and hold the heatsink on firmly. I've used it on old graphics cards a few times, where obviously the heatsink hangs down from the card, and haven't had any fall off yet! There's also thermal tape but that doesn't transfer heat all that well, and nor does it stick as well as adhesive. It's often used on things where there's at least a small a clamping force involved and thermal transfer isn't important - like underneath RAM heatspreaders and sometimes VRAM, although they're more often thermal pads. If there are other holes and BENDING the hooks will let you use them, that's a viable option too though. OK, thanks for the reply, i'll go down the adhesive ROUTE, and may also do a bit of creative bending, just for SUPPORT :-) Did you use Arctic Ceramique on your graphics card?? Do you recommend this?? What do you think of cheap alternatives, AG Termoglue, for example??I honestly can't remember what I used, it's been a while. It was probably Ceramique, can't say for sure, and I don't keep any around as I haven't needed it for ages. ok, thanks for the reply Does anyone recommend any Thermal Adhesive that they've used?? Just read online that the hook that hold the heat sink down may complete a circuit that TELLS the BIOS the heatsink is there??? Is this correct?? If so, just adhesive wont workI've never seen that myself, although I suppose it's POSSIBLE. |

Answer» Can you tell me how to reset to default my screen only stays on for like seconds. Is there any chance its the monitor?Quote from: ifbatmanwasreal on June 28, 2013, 04:20:43 PM Can you tell me how to reset to default my screen only stays on for like seconds. Enter the BIOS by tapping the key INDICATED on startup - usually Delete. Then you will have an option to load defaults. If in DOUBT, check your motherboard manual. Also, if your screen stays on in the BIOS, then that will rule out the monitor as the problem. I THINK it's more likely to be something with your PC though. |

Solve : Acer notebook webcam? |
Answer» A friend of mine has an ACER Notebook Aspire 5315. It has a CrystalEye webcam, which shows up when I go into Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers. However we can't seem to activate it. According to the internet there should be some Acer software under Start>All Programs to get it started but there wasn't. The Acer website had some drivers to download but doesn't really say what they do or how to use them. I downloaded some but they don't seem to have anything to do with the camera. The computer was bought second hand, and was wiped clean before purchase, so he doesn't have any of the stuff it originally came with. Quote The hidden recovery partition may very well still be there... If an OS disc was used other than the Acer Recovery Set then the Recovery Partition could be gone if partitions were all wiped or hard drive replaced to make a total clean build. If the recovery partition is still available as Patio suggested you might get lucky and still have it there usually as D: and labeled as such when looking at drive names. I have seen MANY rebuilds that were rebuilt from clean OS install which are missing the bundled software which is the problem you have now. You may have to contact acer and act as if you are the original owner and lost the recovery software and need a new copy. This is usually like $40 unless under warranty in which it might be free replacement for the software. |

Solve : My hardware issue from h**l? |
Answer» Ok so I've been struggling with this for about a week throwing all kinds of money at the problem trying to determine the cause and I'm REALLY frustrated. I've been building my own computers for 15 years and I've never run into such a pervasive and elusive problem. I turn on the power, and theres about a 80% chance that the monitor will never display anythingWhat if you hold a light to it? Can you see anything when the monitor is out?I have 2 1GB ram sticks. DDR2. I can see nothing at all it's as if the monitor were off. -keithCan you try re-seating the RAM. (remove it and then put it back in) Also, check to see you didn't touch/unplug anything by accident. This may be a stupid question, but when the monitor goes out the computer is still running NORMALLY, right?Remove 1 stick of RAM and try booting. if it doesnt boot, replace that stick of RAM with the other one and see if it boots. doing this will help us to determine if you have a faulty stick of RAM or not.I tried reseating the ram, switching the ram, trying only 1 ram stick at a time, trying different ram slots, all yielded the same result.explain in detail what happens when you try only one RAM stick at a time. can you access your BIOS at all times? as in, does the screen go blank AFTER windows starts loading? also, do you have another machine you can test your CPU in, or do you happen to have an extra CPU that you can use in your current computer?explain in detail what happens when you try only one RAM stick at a time. No matter what the RAM CONFIGURATION, ive tried all different combinations and it yields the same result - I turn the computer and the monitor on, and the monitor starts out in SLEEP mode (normal) until it gets video and then instantly the monitor goes black and starts flickering the LED green ever 3-4 secs. Curiously sometimes i get a super quick FLASH of my bios splash screen, but its like lightning quick before it goes to "no worky mode" can you access your BIOS at all times? as in, does the screen go blank AFTER windows starts loading? I cannot access bios at all no, it goes blank BEFORE I get any image at all. also, do you have another machine you can test your CPU in, or do you happen to have an extra CPU that you can use in your current computer? I'll check... you think its the cpu? Cuz I can just order a CPU if thats the problem (AT this point theres only a couple things it could POSSIBLY be - ram, CPU) -KeithQuote you think its the cpu? as you said, there are not many other things it could be, you purportedly replaced all the other parts except the CPU, and RAM. just by the way you are describing the problem, it makes me assume either the video card or the monitor is bad, but you already replaced those. however, this does not rule out a possible PEBCAK error. are you 100% sure that your monitor and video card are installed correctly? do they work in other computers? have you tested your RAM in another computer? in order to rule out the possibility of the motherboard being shorted by the case, pull out all your components from the case and place them on either a rubber mat or a piece of cardboard. after reassembling your components on the mat or cardboard, try booting it up, see if it boot up correctly. So, I put a new CPU in (now thats basically an entire new computer) and..... the problem is even worse! Now I get "monitor stays in orange mode" meaning like, how your monitor acts (i think its sleep) when the computers not on but the monitor is. SIGH. Ok well I'm just having some company put a totally new computer together for me. I GIVE UP. I hate to do that, but this issue defeated me. Thanks for trying to help, y'all. -KeithQuote I should note that the computer was working perfectly without a hitch for about a year. It stopped working abruptly when I... changed absolutely nothing =[ This is IMO the biggest puzzle looking back on it all ..... and sorry to hear CPU not the answer. I wonder if you can take all your replacement items out of there and start afresh somehow - to maybe finish up with a new machine and no problems. Trouble with these hassles is feeling that we never got to diagnose the real problem. Best of luck.Borrow a known working video card.... If that does not work i would invest in a new MBoard since you've already replaced everything else. Some retail Comp. chains will let you test the board before it leaves the store... |

Solve : some problem with memory,i think...? |
Answer» Hi everyone. I dont really know what is with my computer Generally the failures you describe indicate a bad motherboard. There's nothing in those error numbers that would indicate a failing MBoard... Let's try not to assume too much here.i did a mem test but it showed nothing accualy my cpu 3.01 ghz 512 ram my cpu is about 2 years oldDo you know how to run Checkdisk? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265 Please run this and let us know if you have any errors. Are you running any antivirus software or spyware software? Can you tell us the version? The above error, most LIKELY has nothing to do with RAM, or any other hardware. Check Event Viewer, and see what it says about the error when it happens. So i did what you said it says that it is APPLICATION popupIn the Event Viewer, look under "Windows Logs" and "Application" and look for anything there with Warning or Error near the time where you saw this error, as well as the "System" part of the logs. Is there anything in there that stands out?here what i shows There are possible solutions to your problem, but more info is needed, first. 1. How big is your hard drive, and how much of a free space left? 2. What is the name of the folder, where you keep your video files? 3. Does the above folder have video files only? 4. Are all files in .avi format? 5. The error occurs when you try to access that folder, or when you try to OPEN some .avi file? 6. What media player do you use to open video files? 7. Do you have Photoshop installed? |

Solve : Internet is being stupid.? |
Answer» My internet just stopped working on my main computer. It only seems to work when I have my laptop on, that has a wireless internet connection. But funnily enough, my laptop can access the internet even when my other main computer can't. What's wrong? I just recently installed a new heatsink on my main computer, and a new video card and POWER supply. But I don't think its because of those. I thought it was a modem problem so I restarted the modem, and it fixed the problem for a few hours and then the problem started again. Cable or DSL? And is your computer hardwired or are you doing it wirelessly? Cable, the main computer is hardwired. |

Answer» IM using a compaq presario 2200 laptop and i just received an error message "unmountable boot volume" and it keeps restarting over and over again i tried to run a bios hardisk self test and i got an error #1-02 Fail what should i do i tried to run a chkdsk /r using my bootable disk but i can't MAKE my cdrom as first boot, although i already set my cdrom in bios as first boot what should i do... is that harddrive problem or motherboard problem??It's the hard drive, most likely. But, hard to tell if it's a bad drive or corrupted files, at this point. I can't tell from the Compaq website if error #1-02 is a physical failure or a MBR failure. You are RIGHT trying to run chkdsk /r. Double check your BIOS settings and that you have the correct CD (bootable) in the drive. Assuming that you can boot to the CD: If running chkdsk /r doesn't work, try fixmbr. Both commands would be run from the Windows Recovery Console located on the CD. If fixmbr doesn't work, try fixboot, also from the Recovery Console. If none of the above works, download and run the hard drive diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer. You may need to remove the drive to DETERMINE the manufacturer - be sure to have the laptop turned off and remove the battery and AC adapter before REMOVING the drive from the computer. Post back and let us know how you are doing. |

Solve : Computer Boots, But Not To Login Screen? |
Answer» There was a power outage at my home a while back, and my computer was on at the time. When I turn it on, it repeatedly cycles through the same 3 boot-up screens (which I attached). This has happened before, but in the past, it would cycle 2 or 3 times, and then continue to the login screen. Now, it just keeps going, over & over & over. I don't know much about the computer, other than a friend built it for me back in 2003, it has 2 hard drives, and that one of them (the non-system drive) is a 500 mb drive that I reformatted a while back. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. MUP.sys is the last thing XP loads before executing....Oh...thanksI've also read that MUP.sys is needed to run a Novell network and is basically useless for most users... |

Solve : problems with windows starting and detecting hard drive.? |
Answer» I am having multiple problems. First I connected the montherboard and everything on it and booted it and it could not install windows XP, it said can't READ HARD drive. So I installed the hard drive on to ANOTHER computer and install windows that way, and even install a couple games. Everything worked great. Then I take the hard drive and put it back into the Foxconn montherboard 661FX7MJ and then I started getting problems again. When I can get it to start windows and then tries to install the new device drivers, when I restart to install it doesn't start windows anymore and have to try couple times again to get it to start. Then I have the same problem and it tries to install drivers. Sometimes it doesn't read the hard drive at all. What should I do? I feel I have tried it all. I put windows XP CD and boot off that but it seems to get issues with that also. Viewing the pic it's obvious you're using a ATA hard drive. it is not obvious, his motherboard has two SATA ports. his harddrive could be SATA or ATA.The hard drive is WD Caviar SE 160 GB EIDE. 3.2 P4 processor 1.2gb ram I have to go to work right now, when I come back I'll check the cables and make sure everything is exactly like you advised. Thanks for the help so far.Sorry for the LATE response. I checked the cables and even tried switching the cd rom cables with HD and that seemed to work. It was loaded windows for like 10 MINUTES and then once it loaded it looked like it was working. Installed drivers and rebooted and it was working. Then just when I thought it was working I installed a few more updates and once it rebooted, I got the same problem; windows will be on the Windows XP loading screen and when it should start it would restart the computer. Once I put the HD into another computer, it will load it. It seems to be my motherboard. Any suggestions will be appreciated.Did you ever get this issue resolved? I'm running into the same problem.Quote from: skeety on August 04, 2008, 09:06:29 PM Did you ever get this issue resolved? I'm running into the same problem. Solve : How is this for a PC?? |
Answer» So I want to get a BETTER new pc that is not expansive. So I've been looking for a quad core q6600 kuz it's fast and it's pretty cheap. People barricade them in the small room or some box and then complain why they have death rings/ overheating problems.Even if you leave the xbox 360 out on the table, it will get pretty hot over time. Have you seen the Power Adapters the 360 has? It's HUGE, and it builds up a lot of heat. |

Answer» While ripping a cd on my laptop, there was a loud buzzing NOISE like the disc was out of balance. The disc stopped playing, and now I can't get it to eject. I think the disc is wedged between the door and the interior of the drive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Quote While ripping a cd on my laptop,Found the source of the problem.... Anyways, is this a Laptop or Desktop? On the CD Drive, there should be a small hole. Get a paper clip and put it into that hole and push it in (you have to use force). After inspecting the bottom of the computer I found the mounting SCREW for the drive. After removing this the entire drive slid out and I was able to retrieve the disc. Did the disc blow up in the drive? No, it jumped of the spindle and was loose inside the computer. Heh, strange....QuoteWhile ripping a cd on my laptop,Found the source of the problem.... Solve : Power Supply Makes a Crackling Noise? |
Answer» Hi I recently bought a 500W power supply and its been working great for about 5 months now. warrantys done....*2 weeks *censored*...* and I don't think replacing it would be the best option as of this point coz my dad's gonna kill me! x_x I would check the warranty status again, friend. Though you may not be able to return it to the store from where you purchased it...you may be able to contact the manufacturer for a replacement. It would help if we knew who the manufacurer was...along with the model number, so that we can check your warranty staus and refer you to the correct contact(s). I would definitely not screw around with the internals of a PSU...unless you want to void the warranty (if there is one)...or cause bodily injury from the stored electricity within the PSU's capacitors. Your best bet...replace the unit and be done with it.Quote Your best bet...replace the unit and be done with it.Agreed. Why would your dad kill you? Quote from the stored electricity within the PSU's transformer. just FYI, the electricity is stored within the PSU's capacitors, not its transformers.I agree luckly my dad is an electroic engeenier, I dont recommened it ether just something to have tried doing. Sorry for the sp.Quote from: homer on August 08, 2008, 03:57:29 PM Quotefrom the stored electricity within the PSU's transformer. Thank you...my bad... Solve : the sound card went kaput? |
Answer» Help. My sound card went kaput. So I guess I NEED to install a new sound card, right? Are all sound cards standard or do they vary according to computer? so can i just get a new sound card and put it in my computer? Or are sound cards dependant on the computer brand or type? If I can put any sound card in, then after I do, do I just reload the drivers to make the sound card work properly?Sound cards are not dependent on the computer brand. Make sure that you have an open PCI slot (probably don't want to use the slot the old card was in in case it's damaged), install the card and drivers and you're good to go. There is a presumption here that the problem is the sound card and not the motherboard. Post back if you need the procedure to install the sound card. |

Answer» So I COME back from soccer practice two hours after I left, and when I get back my computer freezes and shuts down. How do I get my data out of there?Do you have another computer?yes i do, i'm using my mom's computer right nowI would suggest removing the hard drive out of the broken computer and hooking it up as a Slave on the working computer. This way you can back up your files. Start with your personal data and work, (like My Documents). This may be your last chance accessing the data.Suggested in Reply #2..... well what's a slave drive???A slave drive would be your existing hard drive . When you install a new hard drive in your computer it is going to be called the master your existing hard drive then will be your slave. |
