When Sahu ‘s wife was told about the death of the bullock she said that it was an ill-omened creature sold to us by Algu.

जब साहू की पत्नी को बैल की मौत के बारे में बताया गया, उसने कहा कि हमें अलगू के द्वारा बेचा गया यह एक अपशकुन जानवर था।

One month after the Panchayat’s decision, one of the bullocks of Algu died.

पंचायत के फैसले के एक महीने बाद, अलगू का एक बैल मर गया।

Algu served his teacher named Jumarati with all his heart and had scoured his pots and pans while the teacher sat and puffed away at his hubble-bubble.

अलगू अपने जुमारती नामक अध्यापक की सेवा अपने पूरे मन से करता और जब अध्यापक बैठ जाता तथा अपने हुक्के से धुआँ निकालता, वह उसके बर्तनों को माँजता था।

Algu did not want to be the head of the Panchayat because he did not wish to be dragged into the dispute. Even his intimacy with Jumman was known to all.

अलगू पंचायत का मुखिया नहीं बनना चाहता था क्योंकि उसकी इच्छा उस विवाद में पड़ने की नहीं थी। यहाँ तक कि उसकी जुम्मन के साथ घनिष्ठता को सब जानते थे।

Jumman was stunned because he was sure that Algu would announce the decision in his favour. He thought that Algu had behaved like an inveterate enemy.

जुम्मन भौंचक्का हो गया क्योंकि उसे पूरा यकीन था कि अलगू उसके पक्ष में फैसला सुनायेगा। उसने सोचा कि अलगू ने एक पक्के दुश्मन के रूप में व्यवहार किया था।

Samjhu Sahu nominated Jumman as the head of the Panchayat.

समझू साहू ने जुम्मन को पंचायत के मुखिया के रूप में मनोनीत किया।

When Jumman was appointed as the head of the Panchayat, Algu’s heart began to beat fast because he thought that Jumman would take his revenge and the decision would be against to him.

जब जुम्मन को पंचायत के मुखिया के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया, अलगू के दिल की धड़कन तेज हो गई क्योंकि उसने सोचा कि जुम्मन उसका बदला लेगा और फैसला उसके खिलाफ जायेगा।

Algu said, “Victory to the Panchayat! This is justice” because of Jumman’s decision. When the dispute of Algu and Sahu was taken to the Panchayat, Jumman was appointed as the head of it. Then Algu thought that he would take a revenge on him, for he had already announced a decision against Jumman. But when Jumman took his seat in the Cabinet, he was full of good sense and responsibility. He announced a good verdict that Sahu should pay the full price of the bullock.

अलगू ने जुम्मन के फैसले के कारण कहा, “पंचायत की जीत! यही न्याय है।” जब अलगू और साहू के झगड़े को पंचायत में ले जाया गया तो जुम्मन को पंचायत के मुखिया के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया। तब अलगू ने सोचा कि वह उससे बदला लेगा, क्योंकि वह जुम्मन के खिलाफ एक फैसला पहले ही सुना चुका था। लेकिन जब जुम्मन ने मन्त्रिपरिषद् में अपनी कुर्सी ली, वह समझ तथा जिम्मेदारी से परिपूर्ण था। उसने एक सही फैसला सुनाया कि साहू को बैल की पूरी कीमत चुकानी चाहिए।

It is known that a friendship which is subordinated to truth and justice, lives forever. It is like a swan which separates water from milk, milk from water and truth from falsehood. Algu and Jumman were close friends. When Algu was appointed as the head of the Panchayat, he did not take Jumman’s favour and pronounced a good decision. Even Jumman did not take it wrong when he pronounced the judgement of Algu and Sahu ‘s dispute.

The aunt was treated badly by Jumman after the transfer of her property to him.

जुम्मन के नाम चाची की सम्पत्ति स्थानान्तरित होने के बाद, चाची के साथ उसके द्वारा बहुत बुरी तरह से व्यवहार किया गया।

When the aunt decided to take the matter to the Panchayat, Jumman felt sure that the matter was bound to be decided in his favour.

जब चाची ने उस मामले को पंचायत में ले जाने का निश्चय किया, जुम्मन ने निःसन्देह अनुभव किया कि वह मामला उसी के पक्ष में होने के लिए बाध्य था।

Sahu began to tax the poor bullock to the limit. Even he did not feed it properly. One afternoon he stowed in the cart double the usual load. The poor creature, already exhausted by three previous trips, could hardly lift its feet. He whipped it hard to make it go. It started and covered a short distance but again stopped. Its master whipped it again. It fell down and died.

साहू ने उस बेचारे बैल पर सीमा से अधिक वजन डालना शुरू कर दिया। यहाँ तक कि वह उसे उचित प्रकार से चारा भी नहीं खिलाता था। एक दोपहर को साहू ने बैलगाड़ी में सामान्य से दोगुना वजन रखा। बेचारा जानवर, पहले से ही तीन चक्कर कर चुका था, मुश्किल से ही अपने पैरों को उठा पाया। उसने उसे आगे चलाने के लिए तेज चाबुक मारा। बैल चला और कुछ दूरी तय की लेकिन दुबारा रुक गया। उसके मालिक ने दुबारा पहले से ज्यादा तेज चाबुक मारी। यह गिर गया तथा मर गया।
