Picture StudyThis is a picture of one of the most impressive structures in Mohenjo-daro. 1. Identify the structure. 2. Describe the structure. 3. Write about the other structures found in Mohenjo-daro. |
Answer» Answer:The Great Bath was found in 1926 during archaeological excavations. The Great Bath is one of the best-known remarkable structures among the ruins of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization excavated at Mohenjo-daro in Sindh, Pakistan.[1][2][3] Archaeological evidence indicates that the Great Bath was BUILT in the 3rd millennium BCE, soon after the raising of the "citadel" mound on which it is located.[4] Contents 1 Features 1.1 College of Priests 2 Discovery 3 References Features Another view of the Great Bath The Great Bath of Mohenjo-Daro is called the "earliest public water tank of the ancient world".[5] It measures 11.88 × 7.01 metres and has a maximum depth of 2.43 metres. Two wide staircases, one from the north and one from the south, served as the entry to the structure.[6] A ledge one metre wide and 40 centimetres HIGH extending the entire width of the bath is at the lower ends of these stairs. A hole was also found at one end of the bath which might have been used to drain the water into it. The floor of the tank was watertight due to finely fitted bricks laid on edge with a gypsum plaster, and the side walls were CONSTRUCTED in a similar manner. To make the tank even more watertight, a thick layer of bitumen (waterproof tar) was laid along the sides of the pool and presumably also on the floor. Brick colonnades were discovered on the eastern, northern and southern edges. The preserved columns had stepped edges that may have held wooden screens or window frames. Two large doors LEAD into the complex from the south and other access was from the north and EAST. A series of rooms were located along the eastern edge of the building and in one room was a well that may have supplied some of the water needed to fill the tank. Rainwater also may have been collected for the purpose, but no inlet drains have been found. It may have had a long bathing pool built with waterproof bricks.[5] Explanation: |

I am a child searching information about Mesopotamias but i did't understand |
Answer» The availability of raw materials is a historical factor of great importance, as is the dependence on those materials that had to be imported. In Mesopotamia, agricultural products and those from stock breeding, fisheries, date palm cultivation, and reed industries—in short, grain, vegetables, meat, leather, wool, horn, fish, dates, and reed and plant-fibre products—were available in plenty and could EASILY be PRODUCED in excess of home requirements to be exported. There are bitumen springs at Hīt (90 miles northwest of Baghdad) on the Euphrates (the Is of Herodotus). On the other hand, wood, stone, and metal were rare or even entirely ABSENT. The date palm—virtually the national tree of Iraq—yields a wood suitable only for rough beams and not for FINER work. Stone is mostly lacking in southern Mesopotamia, although limestone is quarried in the DESERT about 35 miles to the west and “Mosul marble” is found not far from the Tigris in its middle reaches. Metal can only be obtained in the mountains, and the same is true of precious and semiprecious stones. Consequently, southern Mesopotamia in particular was destined to be a land of trade from the start. Only rarely could “empires” extending over a wider area guarantee themselves imports by plundering or by subjecting neighbouring regions. |
