What is commutator??

Answer» Hi?
A commutator is a rotary electrical switch in certain types of electric motors and electrical generators that periodically reverses the current direction between the rotor and the external circuit. It consists of a cylinder composed of multiple metal contact segments on the rotating armature of the machine.\xa0On DC and most AC motors the\xa0purpose\xa0of the\xa0commutator\xa0is to insure that the current flowing through the rotor windings is always in the same direction, and the proper coil on the rotor is energized in respect to the field coils.

Describe electric motor working construction and princple

Answer» Thanks meghna for such a good description
Electric Motor:An electric motor is a rotating device that converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. Electric motor is used as an important component in electric fans, refrigerators, mixers, washing machines, computers, MP3 players etc. An electric motor consists of a rectangular coil ABCD of insulated copper wire. The coil is placed between the two poles of a magnetic field such that the arm AB and CD are perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field. The ends of the coil are connected to the two halves P and Q of a split ring. The inner sides of these halves are insulated and attached to an axle. The external conducting edges of P and Q touch two conducting stationary brushes X and Y, respectively. Current in the coil ABCD enters from the source battery through conducting brush X and flows back to the battery through brush Y. Notice that the current in arm AB of the coil flows from A to B. In arm CD it flows from C to D, that is, opposite to the direction of current through arm AB. On applying Fleming’s left hand rule for the direction of force on a current-carrying conductor in a magnetic field. The force acting on arm AB pushes it downwards while the force acting on arm CD pushes it upwards. Thus the coil and the axle O, mounted free to turn about an axis, rotate anti-clockwise. At half rotation, Q makes contact with the brush X and P with brush Y. Therefore the current in the coil gets reversed and flows along the path DCBA. A device that reverses the direction of flow of current through a circuit is called a commutator. In electric motors, the split ring acts as a commutator. The reversal of current also reverses the direction of force acting on the two arms AB and CD. Thus the arm AB of the coil that was earlier pushed down is now pushed up and the arm CD previously pushed up is now pushed down. Therefore the coil and the axle rotate half a turn more in the same direction. The reversing of the current is repeated at each half rotation, giving rise to a continuous rotation of the coil and to the axle.\xa0The commercial use of motor: \t\tAn electromagnet in place of permanent magnet.Large number of turns of the conducting wire in the current-carrying coil.A soft iron core on which the coil is wound. \t\tThe soft iron core, on which the coil is wound, plus the coils, is called an armature.

Why Bishnoi community is an example for conservation of forest and wildlife?

Answer» ANSWERBishnoi is a tribal community in Rajasthan. For Bishnoi people, protecting wildlife is a religion. A well-remarked case study for the conservation of forests by Bishnoi people is of Amrita Devi Bishnoi who sacrificed her life for protecting \'Khejri\' trees. She literally hugged the tree and dared King\'s men to cut her first before the tree. The King\'s men didn\'t bother about her and cut down trees along with her. 363 other Bishnoi people followed her and sacrificed their lives for the protection of sacred \'khejrali\' forest. In the memory and honour of Bishnoi people who sacrificed their lives for the protection of forests, Amrita Devi Bishnoi Wildlife Protection Award was initiated.\xa0
Conservation of forests and wildlife is necessary to protect the biodiversity. This is important because loss of biodiversity leads to ecological imbalance. But any conservation effort for forest and wildlife must keep the interests of all stakeholders in mind.

What is minimum restance which can be made using 5 resistors each of resistance 1/5 ohm

Answer» 25
25 ohm
25
When resistors are connected in parallel, the supply current is equal to the sum of the currents through each resistor. In other words, the currents in the branches of a parallel circuit add up to the supply current.\xa0Also, they have the same potential difference across them. In other words, any components in parallel have the same potential difference across them. And, the total resistance will always be lesser than the least resistance in the circuit.\xa0The total resistance is calculated as
1/Req = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂ + 1/R₃ + 1/R₄ + ....... + 1/Rn\xa0
∴ for finding minimum resistance , we have to join all resistors in parallel.So , 1/Req = 1/(1/5) + 1/(1/5) + 1/(1/5) + 1/(1/5) + 1/(1/5)1/Req = 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 25Req = 1/25 ΩHence , minimum resistance = 1/25 Ω

Why octave\'s law of triad discarded ???

Answer» \xa0Newland’s law of Octaves explains when elements are arranged by increasing atomic mass, the properties of every eighth element starting from any element are a repetition of the properties of the starting element.\xa0It was discarded because:1. This classification did not work with heavier elements,i.e. those lying beyond calcium.2. Newland adjusted two elements cobalt and nickel in the same slot and these were placed in the same column as flourine , chlorine, and bromine which have different properties than these elements.3. Iron, which resembles cobalt and nickel in properties has been placed far away from these elements.

Transportation in plant explain for a 5 marks

Answer» TRANSPORTATION IN PLANTSSoil is the natural and richest source of raw material for plants.Raw materials like nitrogen, phosphorous and other minerals are absorbed by plants from soil by roots.Plants absorb water and minerals from soil by roots and transport to the leaves. As the distance between roots and leaves is large, diffusion is not sufficient to provide raw materials to leaves and energy to roots.Plants use slow transport system but large as required in tall plants to transport energy from leaves and raw materials form roots.A group of special cells forming vascular tissue transport water and nutrients to all the cells of the plants. Two types of vascular tissues are xylem and phloem.Xylem transports water and minerals obtained from the soil.Phloem transports products of photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant.Vessels, tracheids of the roots, stems and leaves are connected to form a continuous system in xylem cells to transport water to all the parts of the plants.Cells in the roots which are in contact with the soil take up ions which creates a difference of concentration between the roots and the soil and therefore water moves to the roots to eliminate the difference.Water is moved into xylem of roots and from where it is pushed upward.Plants use different mechanisms to pull water upwards through xylem like-\tWater which is lost through stomata is replaced by water absorbed by the roots.\tEvaporation of water from leaf creates a suction force which pulls water. The loss of water in the form of water vapor is calledImportance of transpiration-\tRegulates temperature.\tHelps in absorption of water and upward movement of water and minerals. When stomata are open during the day, large amount of water is lost and thus upward movement of water also becomes more.Phloem transports soluble products of photosynthesis, amino acids, and other substances. The transport of soluble products of photosynthesis is called\xa0translocation.The substances are transported to the storage organs of roots, fruits and seeds. The translocation takes place in the sieve tubes with the help of adjacent companion cells. The movement of substances is bidirectional i.e both upward and downward.Energy from ATP is utilized for translocation.Materials like sucrose move to phloem using energy, increasing the osmotic pressure of the tissue causing water to move and materials in the phloem to tissues according to the plant’s needs.Example- when the buds grow t

What happen if this system of tubes develop a leak

Answer» The blood clots if conducting tubes of a circulatory system develops a leak. The platelets will increase, which will minimize the leakage. Due to this, the inactive thrombin will become the active one in the presence of thromboplasm. Moreover, this active thrombin will convert the inactive fibrinogen into the active fibrin and it results with a clot. The problem is that if the person doesn’t develop with a blood clot, then the medical care is required, otherwise this can lead to death.
