Each villus transports nutrients to a network of capillaries and fine lymphatic VESSELS called lacteals close to its surface.C ) Villi are specialized for absorption in the small intestine as they have a THIN wall, ONE cell thick, which enables a shorter diffusion path. Girdling is carried in fruit plants in order to a. Reduce transpiration b. Increase transpiration c. Increase fruit yield d. Both (b) and (c) |
Answer» please thanks my answersExplanation:Girdling used to be well implemented in CITRUS production in many COUNTRIES around the world and for VARIOUS objectives (Agustí, 2000). This practice causes interruption of PHLOEM transport from the leaves to the roots which results in increased assimilate AVAILABILITY at the canopy which consequently increases fruit set, fruit size and final yield and fruit quality. However, repeated girdling has a negative long-term effect on tree vigor and longevity. Therefore, girdling is rarely practiced nowadays, as more friendly techniques such as use of growth regulators have been proven to be as efficient, particularly when the right regulator is used at the optimal concentration and physiological stage of the target organ (El-Otmani et al. 2000; El-Otmani, 2006). |

Similarities between Bird alimentary canal and cockroach |
Answer» DIGESTIVE SYSTEMThe digestive system includes the alimentary tract and all glands and organs associated with digestion and assimilation of food in animals.Digestion is the breakdown of large molecules of food into simple and absorbable form for use by animals. Ingestion is the taking in of food from OUTSIDE through the mouth. Egestion is the discharge of UNDIGESTED and unabsorbed food from the alimentary canal. Absorption is the passage of food through the wall of the alimentary canal. Assimilation is the manufacture of the BODY’s own materials from the absorbed substances and their use in metabolism.TYPES OF DIGESTIVE TRACTSThere are two types of digestive TRACTS:A. Incomplete digestive tract: has only ONE opening- the mouth which serve for ingestion and egestion e.g Hydra, PlanariaB. Complete digestive tract: has two openings to the outside world- mouth (for ingestion) and anus (for egestion) e.g. earthworm, goatComplete digestive system has an advantage that incoming food does not mix with outgoing undigested food materials and each part is specialized to perform different functions.Alimentary Canal of invertebratesAnimals have different alimentary tracts which vary in size, complexity, mode of feeding or the type of diet.Alimentary canal of PlanariaPlanaria is a free-living flatworm that feeds on small aquatic animals- zooplankton. It has a simple digestive tract with one opening- the mouth. The digestive tract consist of a ventrally placed mouth, muscular pharynx and intestine. The pharynx can be protruded when attacking a prey. Digestion is intracellular and undigested food is egested through the mouth. Digested food is distributed through the body by diffusion.Hope it helps uh plz Mark my answer as brainlist and follow too...... |

Describe the experiment to see onion peel cells |
Answer» Explanation:Pour some distilled WATER into a watch glass. Peel off a leaf from half a piece of onion and using the forceps, pull out a piece of transparent onion peel (epidermis) from the leaf. Put the epidermis in the watch glass containing distilled water. Take a few drops of safranin solution in a dropper and transfer this into another watch glass. Using a brush, transfer the peel into the watch glass containing the safranin solution. Let this remain in the Safranin solution for 30 seconds, so that the peel is stained. Take the peel from the Safranin solution using the brush and place it in the watch glass containing the distilled water. Take a few drops of glycerine in a dropper and pour 2-3 drops at the center of a dry glass slide. Using the brush, place the peel onto the slide containing glycerine. Take a cover slip and place it gently on the peel with the aid of a needle. REMOVE the extra glycerine using a piece of blotting paper. Place this glass side on the stage of the compound microscope and view it. Observations There are a large number of regularly shaped cells lying side by side and each cell has a distinct cell wall. A distinct nucleus is present on the periphery of each cell. Lightly stained cytoplasm is observed in each cell. A large VACUOLE is present at the centre of each cell, and is SURROUNDED by the cytoplasm. Conclusion As cell walls and large vacuoles are clearly observed in all the cells, the cells placed for observation are plant cells. Precautions Use a brush to transfer the peel from one APPARATUS to another. Staining of peel should neither be too dark, nor too light. Extra glycerine stain should be removed using blotting paper.
