What are the challenges to african industries

Answer»

During the period of relative stability since the start of this century, the African continent has experienced rapid growth and has indeed outperformed global growth trends. As a result, its gross domestic product (GDP) has significantly increased and has brought wealth to many countries. However, most African countries that have enjoyed high growth recently, are mainly mono economies. Blessed with many natural resources, their economies have greatly improved, but they still remain at a subsistence level and have not moved beyond.Despite the high growth rate, industrialisation in Africa has barely taken root. Besides South Africa, the most industrialised African country, and barely a few others, large-scale industrial manufacturing is practically nonexistent. Thus, for Africa to grow to the next level, it is critical to examine the REASONS why the continent does not seem able to gather momentum for high value-added manufacturing activities.Political stability and relevant economic strategyThe main reason cited by foreign and domestic investors for PUTTING off or even avoiding major investments in the manufacturing sector, is the perceived lack of political stability in Africa. While the development of the capital-intensive manufacturing sector requires a long investment cycle, the political lifecycle may be very short-term. As a result, it is very difficult for the government of the day to implement a coherent long-term economic strategy with all the relevant economic frameworks and policies that will only bear fruit long after their term in office has expired.Although Africa has great potential to develop its manufacturing sector, the political leaders need to have a clear economic vision to develop sectors in which their respective countries have sources of competitive advantage. Without a conducive environment supported by the relevant economic framework, there are no significant incentives for potential investors to commit themselves. Most of the time, political FACTORS trump economic factors. African political leaders conduct their own type of populism, where they need to satisfy their majority supporters to win elections and remain in power. For instance, South Africa implemented its Black Economic Empowerment programme, where the scale of corporate ownership and management control by the majority black community is mandated by law. To be fair, this is a necessity to address the imbalances brought about by past injustices of the previous apartheid government.Another example is in Tanzania where President John Magafuli and his government have slapped US$190bn of back taxes, interest and fines on Acacia Mining, a subsidiary of Barrick Gold, the world’s biggest gold mining company. Powerful mining companies may have been able to squeeze out the best deal from the government of the day, but to see contracts and deals rescinded overnight by another incoming government, cause ALARM bells to ring about the rights and protection of foreign investors. All these political ACTIONS are seen as major political risks. PLS MARK IT AS BRAINLIEST

What is water dividing line

Answer»

Explanation:Drainage divides can be divided into three types: Continental divide in which WATERS on each side flow to different oceans, such as the Congo-Nile Divide. Every continent except Antarctica has one or more continental divides. MAJOR drainage divide in which waters on each side of the divide never meet but flow into the same ocean, such as the divide between the Yellow River basin and the Yangtze. Another, more SUBTLE, example is the Schuylkill-Lehigh divide at Pisgah MOUNTAIN in Pennsylvania in which two minor creeks divide to flow and grow east and west respectively joining the Lehigh River and Delaware River or the Susquehanna River and Potomac River, with each tributary complex having separate outlets into the Atlantic. Minor drainage divide in which waters part but eventually rejoin at a river confluence, such as the Mississippi River and the Missouri River drainage divides.

One of the most aggradatinal is geography

Answer»

Aggradation (or alluviation) is the term used in geology for the increase in land elevation, typically in a river system, due to the deposition of sediment. Aggradation occurs in areas in which the supply of sediment is greater than the amount of material that the system is able to transport. The mass balance between sediment being transported and sediment in the bed is described by the Exner equation.Typical aggradational environments include lowland alluvial rivers, river deltas, and alluvial fans. Aggradational environments are often UNDERGOING slow subsidence which balances the increase in land surface elevation due to aggradation. After millions of years, an aggradational environment will become a sedimentary basin, which contains the deposited sediment, including paleochannels and ancient floodplains.Aggradation can be caused by CHANGES in climate, land use, and geologic activity, such as volcanic eruption, earthquakes, and faulting. For example, volcanic eruptions may lead to rivers carrying more sediment than the flow can transport: this LEADS to the burial of the old channel and its floodplain. In another example, the quantity of sediment entering a river channel may increase when climate becomes drier. The increase in sediment is caused by a decrease in SOIL binding that results from plant growth being suppressed. The drier conditions cause river flow to decrease at the same time as sediment is being supplied in greater quantities, resulting in the river becoming choked with sediment. In 2009, a report by researchers from the University of Colorado at Boulder in the journal Nature Geoscience SAID that reduced aggradation was contributing to an increased risk of flooding in many river deltas.hope it helps you hope it helps you please please please mark as brilliant answer

Fishing has developed in continental shelf

Answer»

Explanation:Climate change affects marine biological processes from genetic to ecosystem levels [1, 2, 3]. Recent warming in the northeast Atlantic [4, 5] has caused distributional shifts in some fish species along latitudinal and depth gradients [6, 7], but such changes, as predicted by climate envelope models [8], may often be prevented because population movement requires availability of suitable habitat. We assessed the full impacts of warming on the commercially important European continental shelf fish assemblage using a data-driven Eulerian (grid-based) approach that accommodates spatial heterogeneity in ecological and environmental conditions. We analyzed local associations of species abundance and community diversity with climatic variables, assessing trends in 172 CELLS from records of >100 million individuals sampled over 1.2 million km2 from 1980–2008. We demonstrate responses to warming in 72% of common species, with three times more species increasing in abundance than declining, and find these trends reflected in international commercial landings. Profound reorganization of the relative abundance of species in local communities OCCURRED despite decadal stability in the presence-absence of species. Our analysis highlights the importance of focusing on changes in species abundance in established local communities to ASSESS the full consequences of climate change for commercial fisheries and food security. Highlights ► Majority of common northeast Atlantic fishes are responding significantly to warming ► Three times more species are increasing with warming than declining ► Local communities have been reorganized despite decadal stability in species composition ► Species range shifts are tip of iceberg compared to modification of local communities PREVIOUS articleNext article Results and Discussion Average global sea surface temperature (SST) increased by 0.7°C over the last 100 years [4] and is predicted to rise by a further 1.5°C to 2.6°C by 2100 [9]. Marine ecosystems in the northeast Atlantic have warmed particularly rapidly, with mean sea temperatures in the North Sea and Celtic-Biscay Shelf regions increasing between 1982 and 2006 by 1.31°C and 0.72°C, respectively [5], four times faster than the global average [4]. Climate warming is affecting marine biological processes from the genetic to ecosystem level of organization, with implications for commercial fisheries and food security [1, 2, 3]. Significant progress has been made with identifying mechanisms by which climate change can affect fish population dynamics [10, 11] in describing shifts in the distributions of some fish species along latitudinal and depth gradients associated with climate change [6, 7, 12] and in developing climate envelope models to predict effects of climate change on future species distributions [8]. To date, however, macroecological analyses of the effects of climate change on marine fish assemblages have not accounted for constraints on distributional shifts due to population dependence on essential habitat, for example, favored substrates, appropriate predator and prey fields, and close proximity to NURSERY grounds, all of which are often unknown and difficult to quantify. Accommodation of spatial habitat heterogeneity when measuring climate impacts requires an alternative Eulerian (grid-based) approach of analyzing multiple local associations of species abundance and community diversity with climatic variables, controlling for depth and latitude and allowing for complex oceanography.

What hardship do lumberjacks have to face

Answer»

Loggers across the country harvest thousands of acres of forest a YEAR. The work is PHYSICALLY demanding and can be dangerous, with LOGGING consistently listed as the most dangerous job in America. Workers risk serious injury not only from falling out of trees, but also because they often work in locations far away from hospitals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a decline in the number of workers in the profession because of the aging workforce and PHYSICALITY of the job, but the need for logging-equipment operators will REMAIN. Write in detail about the deposition process of winds

Answer»

Deserts and seashores SOMETIMES have sand dunes (Figure below). Beach dunes have different compositions depending on their location. Beach dunes are USUALLY QUARTZ because in humid areas other minerals weather into clays. In the tropics, sand dunes may be COMPOSED of calcium carbonate, which is common. In deserts, sand dunes may be composed of a variety of minerals. There is little WEATHERING and so less stable minerals are left behind.

24350.

On enlarment or reduction of the map does RF scale change?

Answer»

Map Scale, directionsScalePrecise geometric relationship between a map and the region it portrays.- One of the most important characteristics of a modern map.- Most maps are greatly reduced in size compared to their subjects, so scale is a small fraction.Definition: Ratio of the size of the map to its subject:Scale = distance on a map / distance on the groundExample:- Two points on the ground are 1000 m apart.- Represented on the map by points only 1 cm apart- Calculate scale as follows:- 1 cm represents 1000 m- 1000 m = 100,000 cm- so 1 cm represents 100,000 cm- so scale = 1 cm / 100,000 cm = 1/100,000- Scale is a fraction, expressed in 3 ways:- Representative Fraction (RF), e.g. 1:100,000- Verbal Scale 'One cm represents one km'- Graphic Scale - a line labelled with the distance it represents.Graphic scale remains accurate if a map is enlarged or reduced. Verbal and RF scales do not.On a graphic scale, the intervals must be convenient round numbers.Scale examplesexample: ground distance = 5 km, map distance = 2 cm.- STEP 1: - 2 cm represents 5 km - (write in FULL)Explanation:Scale (2)Large and small scales:- Scale is a fraction.- 1/2 is larger than 1/4.- 1/5000 is larger than 1/100,000.- 1:5000 is a larger scale than 1:100,000.- 'Large scale' depends on context but usually refers to scales larger than about 1:50,000.(NOTE - this has nothing to do with an expression like 'a large-scale construction project')Enlarging or reducing:- Scale is map distance / ground distance.- If the map is made larger (on photocopier etc.) the map distance increases, so scale changes.- Larger map = larger scale, smaller map = smaller scale.- Multiply the map distance by the percentage change and recalculate scale.example: Map distance = 1 cm, Ground distance = 1 km.- Scale = 1:100,000- Enlarge by 141% on photocopier.- Map distance = 1.41 cm Ground distance = 1 km- Scale = 1.41/100,000 = 1:70,921DirectionsThree main ways to express a direction.1. Points of the compass- Acceptable for rough directions, not for exact work.- Directions usually lie between points of the compass, however often you subdivide.2. Bearing (numerical version of # 1)- STEP 1: Look due north if the point you are interested in is at all north of you. Look due south if it is south of you.- STEP 2: Turn towards east or west until you face the point.- STEP 3: Measure the angle of that turn.- STEP 4: Express the bearing using all three pieces of information from steps 1, 2 and 3:--- North 30o West--- North 45o East--- South 12o West--- South 87o East3. Azimuth- STEP 1: Look due North.- STEP 2: Turn clockwise until you face the point you are interested in.- Step 3: Measure the angle of the turn. This angle is the NORTH AZIMUTH, usually just called azimuth:--- 330 degrees--- 45 degrees--- 192 degrees--- 93 degreesBe able to convert between bearings and azimuths!Adding AnglesUseful in surveying and navigating.- Remember: 60' = 1o 60" = 1'- 35o 22' 40" + 5o 15' 30" = 40o 38' 10"Definition of northThree common approaches:1. True North (from the latitude - LONGITUDE grid).- Points exactly at the north geographic pole (axis of rotation).2. Magnetic North (the direction a compass needle points).- Points along magnetic field lines, roughly towards the north magnetic pole (in NWT).- Differs from True North in most places because magnetic and geographic poles are not the same.- Changes over TIME as the magnetic pole drifts.- Position of magnetic north must be recalculated if map is more than a few years old.- Rate of change printed on edge of map.example:- "Magnetic North was 7o 30' west of true north in 1985, decreasing at 12' annually".- so in 1992, after SEVEN years:--- Magnetic North will be 7o 30' west of true north, MINUS 7 times 12' = 84'--- 84' = 1o 24'--- so in 1992 magnetic north is 6o 6' west of true north
