What is peer pressure

Answer»

I think peer pressure is often indirect, at least from what I have experienced, where you as an individual behave in certain ways to get accepted into a peer group. Some people have the strength to WALK away from peers but often it is a matter of self esteem or self worth to get acceptedinto the group. Since gaining self esteem/worth is a basic human tendency, people would want to do certain things in orderto get noticed/accepted into the group. It can be as small as faking an interest in sports so that you can hang with your buddies at the local pub on game nights. It can be something as small as saying or doing something that pleases the group and gain acceptance into the group, to something as large as committing a crime. People mindlessly say or do certain actions even ifthey realize the consequences.Even when the decision to do something is yours alone, the indirect influence that the group has on your behavior is probably what is known as peer pressure. Often these can lead to a PERSON regretting thatdecision later on, for example being peer pressured into smoking/drugs is something that happens during college. You know it can lead to a bad habit, but since you see so many people doing it, and you at least want to try it... Its not so bad right? You see your classmates hanging out at near the 7/11 NEARBY, and they are all pretty smart, they know THATONE little smoke won'thurt you. Its college, you are here to try new things, expand your horizons, right? Whats wrong with that?... go on try it,

16.

Why is equality one of the pillars of the democratic set up

Answer»

t doesn’t have to be. Often democracy was restricted. Only the wealthy, the land owners, the powerful, could vote. In America only white men could vote in the early days. Equality was not considered a desirable goal of society. It TOOK a civil war before progress was made in extending the right to vote, increasing equality. It wasn’t until 1920 that women were allowed to vote. The Civil Rights movement further strengthened liberal ideals in American society. However to this day there are many who are ATTEMPTING to restrict voting. Equality is not a guarantee.

People realize that if one group’s rights can be restricted than anyone’s rights are vulnerable. Only if TOTAL equality is CREATED and sustained can a PERSON be reasonably secure in their own rights.
