1. State and define sound. Sound waves cannot travel in vacuum. Why?uthich causes a sensation of sound in our erm

Answer»

Sound, a mechanical disturbance from a state of equilibrium that propagates through an elastic material medium. The study of sound should begin with the properties of sound waves. There are two basic types of wave, transverse and longitudinal, differentiated by the way in which the wave is propagated.

Sound waves are mechanical waves. Unlike EM waves, mechanical waves can't travel in vacuum, because for their propagation they require oscillation of matter. So they can transfer only through a medium.
