12. A light and a heavy object have the same mo-mentum. Find out the ratio of their kinetic en-ergies. Which one has a larger kinetic energy? |
|
Answer» Momentum,P is same for both objects. Let the lighter object be 1Let the heavier object be 2. RATIO OF THEIR KINETIC ENERGY:= K.E 1/K.E 2= P²/2m1 ÷ P²/2m2P²,P² get cancelled.= 1/2m1÷1/2m2= 2m2/2m12,2 get cancelled.= m2/m1=mass of heavier object/mass of lighter object We can conclude that the heavy object has more K.E PROOF:K.E = mv²/2 K.E is directly proportional to the mass. The heavy object has more mass. So,it has more kinetic energy. |
