Answer» As you might know a neutral conductor contains equal number of positive and negative charges. When a charge say “+q” is placed inside a conductor it attracts the oppositely charged particles in the conductor and hence charge equal in magnitude but opposite in sign is induced on the conductor in this case “-q” But as the conductor is electrically neutral at the start, it will remain electrically neutral as there is no flow of charges. Therefore to balance the “-q” charge induced on the inner surface a charge of same magnitude and opposite sign is induced on the outer surface of the condutor. So the total charge on the conductor remains same as before i.e zero. |
