2x State the differences between convex and concave mirrors? (AS)3 Distinguish between real and virtual images. (AS)

Answer»

difference between concave and concave mirror are:

concave: A curved mirror is a mirror with a curved reflecting surface. The surface may be either convex or concave. Most curved mirrors have surfaces that are shaped like part of a sphere, but other shapes are sometimes used in optical devices.

convex: A convex mirror or diverging mirror is a curved mirror in which the reflective surface bulges towards the light source. Convex mirrors

reflect light outwards, therefore they are not used to focus light. ... The image is SMALLER than the OBJECT, but GETS larger as the object approaches the mirror.

difference between real and virtual images:

real image: A real image occurs where rays converge, whereas a virtual image occurs where rays only appear to diverge. Real images can be produced by concave mirrors and converging lenses, only if the object is placed further away from the mirror/lens than the focal point, and this real image is inverted.

virtual image: in optics, an image is defined as the collection of focus points of light rays coming from an object. A real image is the collection of focus points actually made by converging rays, while a virtual image is the collection of focus points made by extensions of diverging rays.
