8.An iron ball of density 7.8gm/cm3 and volume200cm3 is totally immersed in water. Calculate the weight of iron ball inair.flosts In the air Frolain this fact with reason?

Answer»

Upthrust = Mass x Acceleration due to gravity.Mass = Density x Volume = 7.8 x 200 = 1560g

Therefore, Upthrust = 1560 x 9.8 = 15,288 gm/s^2

Volume V = 200cm³ = 200 × 10^–6 m³ and density = 7800kg/m³

Mass of iron ball = 7800 × 200 × 10^–6 = 78 × 2 × 10– 2 kg So, m = 1.56 kg g = 10m/s²

Since the density of iron is greater than water. It will sink

(1) Weight of iron ball in air = mg = 1.56 × 10 = 15.6 N
