A ball of mass 1 kg is moving with a velocity of 15 m/sec undergoes a head onelastic collision with another ball of unknown mass at rest, and reboundswith a velocity of 10 m/sec. What is the mass of other ball ?

Answer»

Mass of ball = 1 kg

initial speed = 15m/s

final speed = -10 m/s ( because it rebounds elastically)

Change in momentum= mv - mu

=> ∆P = 01×(-10) - 1×15

=>∆P = -25 kg.m/s

Given that contact time = 0.1s

force = ∆P/t = -10/0.1 = -100 N
