(a) Light enters from air to glass having refractive index of 1.50. What is the speed of light in glass? The speed of light in vacuum is 3xx10^(8)ms^(-1). (b) An object is situated at a position in between the main focus (F) and 2F of a convex lens. Draw the ray diagram showing the position, size and nature of image formed.

Answer»

Solution :(a) We know
Refractive Index, `MU=("Velocity of Light in Vacuum")/("Velocity of Light in Glass")`
We are given, refractive index of glass = 1.50
Velocity of Light in vacuum = `3xx10^(8)ms^(-1)`
`therefore1.50=(3xx10^(8))/("Velocity of Light in Glass")`
Velocity of Light in glass = `(3xx10^(8))/(1.50)=2xx10^(8)ms^(-1)`
(b) When the OBJECT is placed between F and 2F the image FORMED is real and inverted. The diagram is as given below

The size of the image DEPENDS upon exact position of the object. The position is between F and 2F.
