An inventor claims to have developed a heat engine working between temperature 27°c and 227°c having efficiency of 45% is the claim valid? Prove |
|
Answer» Answer: If this engine is only thermal, such an EFFICIENCY is theoretical impossible. The thermal cycle can’t have a higher efficiency than the CARNOT cycle operating between the same temperatures. The latter has an efficiency of NEARLY 40%, moreover theoretical. A REAL Carnot engine moreover would have quite less efficiency. The alleged engine can’t have an efficiency of 45%. |
