Can Gauss sau in electrostatics tell us thatescactly where a charge is situated in aGaussian surface

Answer»

Gauss's law in electrostatics states that the totalelectricflux through a closed surface is equal to the netelectriccharge enclosed by the surface divided by permittivity.

The configuration of charge inside the closed surface doesn't matter and charge placed outside the closed surface doesn't contribute to the flux passing through the surface. Yes even the shape of the Gaussian surface is irrelevant .
