The filial duty comprises of obedience, loyality and devotional spirit among the children for their parents. But the right to self-happiness forbids the entry for filial duty. For example, someone has brought tickets for movie in advance for Sunday. Unfortunately, his mother is down with fever the same day. It becomes his duty (filial) to forget the movie and devote time to his mother. This decision has been called problematic in this story because the sense of responsibility towards elders is lacking in the younger generation. The children who prefer filial duty above personal happiness learn the complete art of living.

पुत्रोचित कर्त्तव्य के अन्तर्गत माता-पिता के लिए बच्चों में आज्ञापालन, वफादारी और समर्पण की भावना आती हैं। परन्तु आत्म-प्रसन्नता का ज़ो अधिकार है, वह पुत्रवत कर्तव्य का प्रवेश नहीं चाहता और इस प्रकार जीवन का आनन्द लेता है। उदाहरण के लिए, किसी व्यक्ति ने रविवार के लिए अग्रिम रूप से सिनेमा के टिकिट खरीद लिए। दुर्भाग्यवश उसकी माँ को बुखार हो जाता है। यह उसका पुत्रवत कर्त्तव्य हो जाता है कि वह सिनेमा को भूल जाए और सारा समय माँ की देख-रेख में, दवा आदि देने में व्यतीत करे। इस निर्णय को इस कहानी में समस्यात्मक कहा गया है क्योंकि बड़ों के प्रति उत्तरदायित्व का विवेक जवान पीढ़ी में कम होता जा रहा है। वे बच्चे जो व्यक्तिगत प्रसन्नता से ऊपर पुत्रवत् कर्त्तव्य को रखते हैं वे जीवन जीने की सम्पूर्ण कला सीख लेते हैं।
