Example 4.10 An insect trapped in acircular groove of radius 12 cm moves alongthe groove steadily and completes 7revolutions in 100 s. (a) What is theangular speed, and the linear speed of themotion? (b) Is the acceleration vector aconstant vector? What is its magnitude?

Answer»

Frequency of revoluation of Insect = No of revolaution completed in one second =7100=0.07S−1

(a) Angular Speed = 2πn=2∗227∗0.07=0.44radsec−1

Linear speed =ωr=0.44∗ 0.12 = 0.0528 metersec−1

(b)In this case accelearion is not a constant vector as direction of velocity is continious changing. This is centripetal accelearation and its magnitude is = ω2r = 0.0232 radsec−2
