1.

Explain the following by giving examples. 1.) how metal oxides react with acid? 2.) how non metal reacts with base?

Answer»

lic oxides REACT with acids to give salts and water. Here metal displaces hydrogen in acid and forms a SALT. Displaced hydrogen adds with oxygen in metal oxide to form water. This is similar to neutralisation reaction so metallic oxides are basic in nature.2.Acids are non-metals. They react with BASES to form salts and water. Reactions of other non-metals with bases are actually quite complex. Non-metal oxides are usually acidic in nature and react with bases in the same way as acids (salt and water).
