1.

Figure shows the position of layers of air, at one moment , as a sound wave of constant frequency passes through the air. Compressions are labeled as C andRarefraction are labelled as R \\\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \\\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \\\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \\\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ State how figure would change if a) sound has higher frequency b) the sound were louder c) On figure draw a line marked with arrows to show the wavelength of sound.

Answer»

A)
The speed of sound in air at a PARTICULAR temperature and air pressure is same.  So if the FREQUENCY increases, then the wavelength DECREASES.  The distance between the successive COMPRESSIONS and rarefactions decreases.
         \\\\ \ \ \ \\\\ \ \ \ \\\\ \ \ \ \\\\
b)
The loudness comes from the amplitude of vibrations.  But the wavelength  remains same.  So distance between the rarefactions and compressions remains same.
c)
Draw a line from the CENTER of a compression to the center of next consecutive compression.
