find the equation of the straight line which passes through the point (-1,3) and having x-intercepts thrice of y-intercepts |
|
Answer» Answer: The general EQUATION of a straight LINE is y=kx+d So we know 3=k+d and the y intercept is d (x=0) while the x intercept is at −dk (y=0 ). So d=−3dk . Combing this we get k=−3 and d=6 or d=0 and k=3 . 3x intersects both x and y at 0 this works, while 6−3x intersects x and y at 2 and 6 respectively this works too |
