Give scientific reasons for the following statements : The weight of 100 g H_(2) and He is same yet the number of elements is not same.

Answer»

Solution :The number of atoms in a molecule (compound) depends on mole number and ATOMICITY.
`rarr` Mole of 100G `H_(2) = (100 g)/(2 u)`
= 50 mole
`:.` Number of atoms in 100 g `H_(2) = 2 xx 50 xx 6.022 xx 10^(23)`
`= 6.022 xx 10^(24)` atoms
`rarr` Mole of 100 g He = `(100g)/(4 u)`
= 25 mole
`:.` Number of atoms in 100 g He
= `1 xx 25 xx 6.022 xx 10^(23)`
= `150.55 xx 10^(23)`
= `1.5055 xx 10^(25)` atoms
Thus, the molc and atomicity of both the gases are DIFFERENT, the number of atoms is not same.
