How can buckling effect be reduced in beamsof a bridge?

Answer»

The most common reason for providing bracing on a steel-concrete composite bridge is for the control of buckling in the main beams during construction. In an unrestrained beam, the compression flanges of the main beams tend to buckle horizontally, causing the beam to twist – so called lateral torsional buckling.
