You follow below steps to set java_home in WINDOWS XP.
Steps:
1.Click on Start menu.
2.Then right click on My COMPUTER icon and select properties.
3.After that Click on Advanced Tab.
4.Then Click on Environment Variables button.
5.Then Under System Variable,click on New button.
6.After that ENTER the variable name as JAVA_HOME.
7.Then Enter the variable value as the install PATH for the Development Kit(C:/j2sdk1.4.2)
8.Then Click on OK button.
9.Then Click on Apply button.
