This is exactly similar to the situation of projectile motion in which gravitational acceleration is in negative Y direction.Suppose we project charge particle at an angle (theta) with horizontal then it makes an angle of 90 degree+theta with electric field .Now, downward acceleration of charge particle is Eq/m. m is mass of the particle. We neglect the gravitational force on the charge particle. So in the equations of projectile motion we replace g by Eq/m.
