Q9.Explain the physical significance of radius of gyration.

Answer»

Radius of gyration is the distance from the axis of rotation at which if instead of the whole body, a point object is placed, the system will have the same moment of inertia. It's physical significance can be explained by the fact that if a point object is placed at the radius of gyration, the motion can be considered as that of a point object and not as a continuous body. It represents the stability against the axial force.
