Question : A cell is placed in a solution swelled up. What kind of solution is it? Why does it happen? |
| Answer» SOLUTION :When a cell swells up, it means that the water from outer medium enters the cell by crossing the plasma MEMBRANE. This happens due to lower CONCENTRATION of water in the cell sap as COMPARED to the outer solution. As water concentration in outer medium is more, it moves through semi-permeable plasma membrane, in the cell. This is endosmosis. This shows that the solution in which cell is KEPT is hypotonicas compared to the concentration of cell sap. | |
