Solve : Advice needed in buying laptop?

Answer»

I'm currently on my first computer, an EeePC- the OLD one with the tiny screen. I want to get something bigger (if I ever get enough money- and it can't cost too much), and I'm doing some research to see what I'll get.
First of all, do all new notebooks EXCEPT "netbooks" have a DVD-CD drive?
What is the minimum screen size to effectively use photoediting programs such as GIMP?
What's the difference between Intel Core 2 and Pentium, etc?
Do laptop brands and models differ in the effectiveness of their wireless reception? If so, which brands have the best? And what is Wireless N Technology?
                                 Thanks!
There are full size laptops in the price range of those netbooks now...perhaps they will suit your needs better.

Clik Here for example...there are others. Quote

And what is Wireless N Technology?
A reference: 802.11n Wireless Technology Overview.  I don't think I'd be too concerned with the lack of it in a new computer.  It's still a technology that's EVOLVING.

Is a desktop system an option for a new computer?  They would give you the capbability of larger screens.  With laptops, the 15.4" Widescreen is a common size. Thanks for answering- I don't have the space for a desktop. I think more people will be replacing their desktops with laptops in the future- they're much more CONVENIENT. The DOWNSIDE is that if one part goes bad, you can't replace it as easily as with a desktop.
