Solve : AVG Free?

Answer»

I know that they had some issues with the new release ... for testing purposes i DLoaded AVG 8.0 Free and installed it on 4 builds.
The install went flawlessly ...updates seemed a bit quicker as well as the scans.
This was done on the Win2K build; 2 WinXP Pro builds and Vista...no issues at all.

I know that Broni and a few other regular contributors had issues and stopped recommending it but judging by my results i believe we can now return to recommending it as a good solid Free ALTERNATIVE...

Any questions let me know.

patio. It's working fine for me as well, mostly. Sometimes it won't update but it starts working again within a few hours or at most by the next day.I'm willing to do that, as soon, as I'll SEE decline in postings about AVG problems.
Firstly, I'm more, than sure, that all of your MACHINES are in perfect shape, patio, but this not the case of an average user.

Sometimes it won't update
Here we go...I've not stopped recommending AVG but it usually isn't the first choice offered.

I did a few Google searches and the majority of AVG issues slowed down around the first of August. Outside of the AVG forums there isn't as many help requests as there was a few months back. I've had no issues with AVG 8 either, and not all the machines I used it on were in perfect shape.
I starting using it just after it was released - I don't use it on my own PC any more, but it's on the family's computer and has been for a good while, no problems. As far as my machines being in good shape you make a valid point Broni...
However the Win2K machine barks at me like Border Collie that i forgot to feed...

The update ISSUE i haven't seen but the references to it at the AVG Forums seem to indicate they had server problems about a month ago and it has been addressed...

As far as people having problems i'd suggest they DLoad and install the latest version. All I'm saying is that I'm simply afraid to recommend AVG to people. Two reasons:
1. If something doesn't work (and it may, considering AVG 8.0 history), someone may say: "What the heck did you recommend to me?".
Said, that...
2. I have two other choices of Avast, and Avira, so why to take the risk...
Personally, until I'm 100% sure, AVG works flawlessly, or close to it, I won't be recommending AVG, for the time being.
