Solve : beeping computer?

Answer»

My mother -in-law gave my kids a computer. Everytime I connect it starts to beep (over and over). What would cause this?A stuck key on the keyboard?

It depends on when it starts to beep, how many BEEPS, and what the system does. You need to provide a LOT more information.okay. so it is a V2 premier computer. When it is starting up it doesn't even get to a WELCOME screen. It just starts this long beep and then another and then another, ect.
Then I unplug it!Things we need to find out:

- your BIOS version

How to find out:

- When your computer starts up, immediately keep pressing the 'del' (delete) key several times.
A screen with options should appear. On top of this screen it should say something like "Phoenix BIOS"

Why:

- The beep codes depend on your BIOS.

Nice, I've just found an excellent guide on this website:
Beep codes

Here's another useful page on AWARD beep codes:
BIOS-central

Is it a laptop or a desktop?

Edit:
According to your manufacturer the BIOS you have is AWARD.
As you described: "one long, then another, then another".
This would match the "1 long, 2 short" of AWARD on that beep codes page.

Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot INITIALIZE the video screen to display any additional information

However, you said "etc.", so I don't know if it was 1 long, 2+ short. lol

Possible RAM or video problem. Can you remove the side of the case / ground yourself to metal, like the side of the power supply / unplug power / remove one of the RAM sticks [if there are more than one / reboot. Check to see if the video card is properly installed.

That is what mine is doing (after I went to link you suggested). How do I do what it suggests?Vickie TRY removing and re-seating the RAM MODULES...
Do this with all power disconnected from the machine.
Then power up again...if it still does it remove all but 1 stick of RAM.What about static elec? She ought to be grounded.Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this. Removing and re-seating the RAM modules...I don't even know where they are;(
It is a desk top.Check this out for some help with your RAM
