Solve : Best USB TV tuner under $60 supporting Component video? |
|
Answer» Right now I have a ATI TV Wonder 600 USB but I can't get HD if I linked it to a HD Cable box through Coaxial. The cable box said It supported component HD output but I don't know which TV tuner will support Component HD video (Has to be 720p) with a USB output and is under $60 (My budget is tight but I will sell the old tuner if the new one works). I have a USB TV-tuner that supports component, but it was around 150$ when I bought it.None come for $60 but I can get one for $80 and sell some old stuff.Yes. The good ones are not cheap. The bargain ones have something missing. And they don't tell you all that is missing. Is this for use in the USA or Canada? Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 26, 2010, 04:00:08 PM Won't matter. In the USA most areas are all digital. Some translator (repeaters) are still analog. The ads for TV tuners do not make this very clear. So be careful. And even the ones that are digital may not cover cable assignments.A lot of cable systems still carry analog, or NTSC, video to be compatible with older TV sets, although this is being phased out little by little. To cover all possibilities, you need a card that does ATSC, NTSC and clear QAM. With a card like this you could bypass the cable box except for premium services like HBO, etc. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 26, 2010, 06:49:28 PM In the USA most areas are all digital. Including where I am. and my TV tuner, which states "NTSC/ATSC/QAM HD TV receiver" still works fine. I imagine that's for the same reason rthompson (and yourself) STATED, in that the analog SIGNAL is still present. However, this theory falls apart (at least for me) because none of the older TVs work without a converter box. therefore, where I am, (if not clear yet, this is Canada) has been switched to digital (which means, the TV tuner is receiving QAM input). Therefore, most areas across North America are now using Digital rather then Analog reception.(It not exclusive to the US) I purchased this adapter in Canada and use it in Canada and I see no reason why it would not work in the US or why a Tuner bought in the US wouldn't work in Canada, therefore it doesn't matter. Also: turns out I lied, it doesn't have component input. it can take S-video and RCA, but not component (YyCbCr, or something similar)What I want to say is watch out for cheap tuners. They may not conform to the new standards. It may say it is for use in USA and Canada. But it fact it would be deceptive to sell such a device if it requires an additional external box. Been there, done that. Just bought a real cheep DVD tuner recorder player. Turns out it only receives analog. Had to put it on the cable. And even then it only gets the analog channels. So I can only record about half of what the cable company gives me. To make matters worse, earlier I bought a very nice VHS /DVD recorder play with Digital input and outputs. But it did NOT have a tuner! And Wally mark tells me they no longer carry the tuner that goes with it! Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 26, 2010, 11:10:46 PM What I want to say is watch out for cheap tuners. It's almost never a good idea to buy cheap- especially for electronics.Th last I read was that Canada's digital TV conversion was scheduled to be complete by August 2011. Probably, the bigger cities are going FIRST. I would also guess that, like in the US, translators are exempt from the digital rules. I don't know for sure but I would guess that Canada has a lot of translators. For the most part, only people that live in extremely rural areas even know what a translator is. It is a very low powered relay station for TV signals that takes a signal from a standard broadcast station and retransmits it into rural areas. In the US most translators are still broadcasting analog, or NTSC, video.BC, that would make a good consumer warning label. Quote ** WARNING. ** |
