Solve : Bittorrent software? |

Answer» Can anyone recommend a good bittorrent program that isn't loaded with spyware/adware? (for WindowsXP)The only BitTorrent programs I know about are uTorrent and Bityrant.Well, I finally downloaded Bittorrent 6.0 from Bittorrent.com. I was using Frostwire to grab bittorrents, but it seems to corrupt larger files.
So it'll run from a flash drive ? ?Quote from: PATIO on January 11, 2008, 05:25:35 PM Quote from: WillyW on January 11, 2008, 05:08:28 PM How would this affect running from a flash drive? But to answer - I don't know. I don't have one to try it with. I was thinking in terms of portability....being able to run it on another machine for example without installing it...uTorrent portable is your answerQuote from: patio on January 11, 2008, 09:17:08 PM I was thinking in terms of portability....being able to run it on another machine for example without installing it... I would expect it to run fine, as there is no install at all. Like a good ol' DOS program - you just run it. No Windows Install pops up, no inclusion on the ADD/Remove software list, etc. Searching the registry with Regedit FINDS no instance of "utorrent". However- having seen Broni's post, and this being a new day, the gray matter here is clicking again. I remembered something that would have been of INTEREST to you, I think. utorrent, when run, creates this directory: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\uTorrent (Win98 here) In it, I see a few files with extension of .dat , along with what appears to be a copy of any loaded torrent file. Time/Date stamps on the .dat files are current. This looks like a working dir for utorrent to find its config. And that jives with the info Broni provided. That page tells how to get utorrent to look at a dir that travels with it, when portable. I suppose that when one wishes to 'remove' utorrent from a computer (not being used as portable utorrent), one must know to go find that dir and delete it, along with simply deleting the .exe . Interesting... thanks for bringing it up. Broni - Thanks for the link. If you try it - the portable way - let us know what you think of it. I think I'm gonna try some of the other ONES. Since installing and using BitTorrent 6.0, my computer has randomly restarted 3 times (just stop and reboot, no shutdown) in the last 24 hours while the program is running. Never happens when the program isn't running and only started when I got that. |
