Solve : Can someone help regarding explaining what I need to recieve from the following?

Answer»

20 mb download pipe
2 gb ram graphics card SVQ
Videolan 1.05
freenet node

Sorry if it is SIMPLE but I am not aware of what this actually means  20 mb download pipe

A broadband (DSL or cable) link capable of 20 megabits per second transfer rate

2 gb ram graphics card SVQ

A graphics card with at least 2 gigabytes of video RAM, and (I think) the Serenson H264 video codec software installed on your system

Videolan 1.05

The free VLC Media player version 1.0.5 or later

freenet node

You need to be connected to the Freenet "dark net".

What are you trying to do? View streaming HD? From where? Are you trying to circumvent copyright or territory restrictions?

Thankyou salmon. I have no idea yet. These are the requirements to recieve the feed. What is this dark net business ? Quote

Since you provide no information (see above) we cannot tell.
I am trying to recieve some pictures direct to the pc of live sporting events which are supposedly faster than the majority of viewers recieve. Not by much but in horse racing terms maybe half a furlong b4 other viewers. This can obviously be quite lucrative if you know what you betting on in regards to front runners or deep closers etc etc. Just didnt understand the computer requirements. Still dont understand this freenet darknet business but i have a handle on the rest of it. Quote from: maccos on May 09, 2010, 04:30:47 AM

So you want to cheat bookmakers by hacking closed feeds. That makes you potentially a criminal fraudster.

No m8. I dont want to hack anything. Its about the speed of pictures. I just want to understnd the mechanics of the requirements. Its the same feed which goes into the exchange shops which are primarily occupied by In Running punters. Problem is these shops are few and far between and are not viable to travel to on a daily basis. That is all. I have been offered the service for a fee and just wanted to comprehend the required COMPONENTS.  The In Running market is not a bookmaker led industry. It is an arbing haven for punters that want to protect or speculate further while the event is in play. The speed of the pictures is just a bonus tbh. The real skill is being able to interpret what is unfolding b4 you.It sounds a bit hole-in-the-corner if you are having to use the Darknet, are being cagey about the origin of this "offer", and think that seeing a race "half a furlong" before the other punters is going to be "lucrative". To repeat, I smell fraud of some sort here. Whether you are the potential perpetrator or victim I am not quite sure. Quote from: maccos on May 09, 2010, 04:44:43 AM
an arbing haven

I told you. Crooked.
I am not understanding your stance here salmon. I only wanted to discover the PROS and cons / working logistics of this b4 getting involved.  Quote from: maccos on May 09, 2010, 04:53:33 AM

My "stance" is that we don't just give out technical advice or info here, regardless of the what the enquirer wishes to do, we have an ethical/moral/legal standpoint as well. Some of that standpoint is enshrined formally in the rules of the forum, which you were expected to read and assent to as a condition of joining. A number of these rules concern what I shall call "hacking". Without getting into an argument about the meaning of the word, I shall define this as "doing something you shouldn't". There are some things that are definitely on the 'bad' side of the line: downloading, installing and using copyrighted or illegal material, spamming, creating and/or spreading adware, viruses, get-rich-quick schemes, etc. There are others that are in a grey area. Often we get questions which make (some of) us smell a rat. These tend to be where the OP phrases their question in vague terms and is cagey about what they want to do. Since we are not morally neutral, we tend to ask for more information. It seems entirely understandable that whether that information is forthcoming, and if so, its nature, is bound to govern what our response is. People often use the dark net to do things that they don't want traced back to their IP address, and that fact, coupled with your use of words like "arbing" makes me think that you may be either the perpetrator or victim (or as is so often the case, a victim who is being led to believe he is joining the perpetrators) of a fraudulent scheme. Also, if the sports feeds are legally available to you, why do you need to have a freenet node?

Ok fair comments. The feeds are not available in the format which is being offered. I had no comprehension of what was required in order to recieve the feed and therefore posed the opening questions. That is all, nothing more nothing less. I still have no real idea what this frenet / darknet business is all about but I do appreciate your time in trying to assist in me finding out. Sorry if I have wasted your time
