Solve : Can't see CD Drive in My Computer?

Answer»

On installing a new hard drive, my CD Rom drive will not SHOW up in Windows 98. As per instructions from your help files I have set the new hard drive to master, but this has it's own cable anyhow. CD rom drive is also set to master on it's own cable, I have tried on slave but still it wont work.
Also when the computer in booted up I get a message as follows: THE COMPRESSION DRIVER CANNOT BE SET UP CORRECTLY. GET A VERSION FROM YOUR VENDOR THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS
PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE.
What is this compression drive for and how can I stop this message coming up.
Thirdly when shutting down windows will not close proberly, one has to manually switch off. Then on re-boot it goes to SCAN DISC first.
I do hope someone can help me.
does the hard drive show up in the bios hit the del key on boot up in there if it does you will see setup DEFAULTS maybe f9 hit that and save exit..then you NEED a boot floppy place that in the drive with the win98cd and follow on screen instructions..or m$ofts>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;187218&Product=w98 The Following reason may cause the problem
1) if cd-rom drive is not show up in bios settings.
2) jumpper settings in cd-drive
3)bad ide cable
