Solve : Can you believe this??

Answer»

I've decided tonight to go for a clean reinstall of Windows 2K on my older computer.
In pretty short period of time between Windows install establishing Internet connection, and downloading, and installing Comodo, and AVG, I was able to pick up TWO Trojans.
I've never, ever had any infection on any of my computers!!!
I can blame little bit myself, because by playing with port forwarding, I had couple of ports open on my ROUTER, but I wouldn't SUSPECT those BAD guys to be so quick.
Trojans are gone, but I'm still shocked. One security co. did a honeypot test with 5 machines all connected for the first time to the web...average time before infection: 9 1/2 minutes.Next time around, I'll make sure to install firewall, and AV from CD, before even touching ethernet cable.Even installing older versions of those APPS without updates is safer than nothing......learned my lesson....Holy cow

How is that possible? I have an anti-virus software (even though its off most of the time) and I'm behind a router as well but I surf the sites I trust and never go on suspicious sites with obvious spyware or trojans. Any website with "cracks" or "patches" some where along the address will have an infection either in the file or they would require you to install one of their plug-ins or applications to be able to download anything.

I don't understand though how do you get a trojan or just overall a virus in general just by being connected to the internet? I've heard people say that even if your computer is off but you're connection is online you can get a virus so people buy that hardware to eliminate connection to pc while modem is online. My pc is still clean to this point.Dis-connect your router and see how long it takes...
I've also seen articles on how it is more prevalent on new installs that are automatically "phoning home" for automatic updates but this correlation may be a red herring...
From what you have told us as far as being behind a router and using a common sense approach to surfing you should have little or no worries though.Quote

I did reinstalls before, but BACK then, I didn't have any router ports open, so it clearly shows what a difference router makes.I can't really disconnect my router since its built-in with my modem sent from Bell Sympatico, its speedstream 6250 or something like that.Gotcha... ahah
