Answer» Every TIME I download a .pdf file, my computer seems to freeze. The file does load, but it won't allow me to cancel the download or minimize the window or anything else, till it's finished. Ctrl>Alt>Delete does nothing. Is this a common thing or should I be concerned?

Alan <>< I have dial-up with Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and an accelerator from Propel Software. As to what's running in the background, I guess I'll have to find another pdf to download and check it out, but I do close all windows, if that helps.Yes, it is exactly as it is with Dial-Up. It will make you wonder if something has happened and then POOF !! There it is..... The larger the file the longer it takes but there is nothing to worry about' it just loads the whole file before allowing you to continue. Why haven't you updated Firefox? The latest version is 3.0.8. If the dialup download time is a concern, you can order it on CD at http://store.mozilla.org/category.php?catid=1
However, I'm not suggesting this has anything to do with your question re: PDF downloads. I think Laska's reply hit the target. Keep in mind some PDF files are quite large, sometimes larger than necessary because the creators did a poor job of optimizing file size.Quote from: soybean on March 31, 2009, 09:57:27 AM Why haven't you updated Firefox?
I tried to update, but the new Firefox does not support the latest version of the dial-up accelerator my ISP provides me. It is very fast, and necessary for my sanity, and there is only dial-up in my area. The worst part of the pdf problem is that sometimes, you're not given the size of the file, so it's basically a coin toss.DLoad and install Foxit Reader... Adobe is a resource HOG.
