Answer» Several weeks ago I had my computer "scrubbed" by a local outfit to remove a persistent virus. They reinstalled Win 7 and I reinstalled my information and programs. Since then, when I use the "Shut Down" button in the Start MENU to turn off the computer the screen GOES blank but a "whooshing" sound , like a fan running at high speed or a hard drive really spinning continues until I press and hold the Start button for several seconds. Any idea what's preventing the machine from completely shutting down? I have an ASUS all-in-one ET2701INKI-B046C. Sounds like they didnt exactly SCRUB the system and perform a clean build to it. I have dealt with this problem with SYSTEMS that were infected that I cleaned up and of which the system still had damage from the problems. I'd suggest a clean install from factory media or disc. 99.9999999% sure this would cure your problem with shutdowns hanging like this.
