Solve : Copying Error: cyclic redundancy check?

Answer»

Hello All

This is the first TIME seeing this error message while copying a file. What I am doing is trying to copy some avi FILES from a cd to my HD and while copying the file i recevied the following error.

Cannot copy file/data: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

Is this a os problem, a ram problem and/or disc problem

Also while copying some files, the system becomes sluggish to respond

Running Winxp pro sp3
4 gigs ram
120 WD 7200 rpm hd

You should consider the problem as a fatal error. Not fatal to you OS, but the data is CORRUPTED beyond reasonable recovery.

But, here are a few this you can try with hardware.
1. Get a new CD reader. or borrow one.
2. Go to a local Drugstore and buy a kit to polish the surface of the CD. Sometimes that really works.

Otherwise, trying to override the CRC in software will almost always often give you trashed data.http://www.wikihow.com/Copy-a-File-and-Ignore-Cyclic-Redundancy-Check-ErrorsGeek-9pm

So are you suggesting that the data on the cd has become corrupted and unrecoverable?

How does this happen as I am unsure. Can you explain. is it age of disc? Is this this machine ? ?

If so why does the advice not work ? ?patio

there was nothing wrong with advice. I was just MERELY making sure I understood the what was said correctly thats all.
