Solve : Dell, As Homer would say....DOLT!?

Answer»

Here's a giggle for you, I just purchased a DELL Studio XPS 8100 / 650

It's supplied with a wireless keyboard and mouse - connected via a USB dongle.

Upon connecting and powering up, It says on SCREEN " KEYBOARD ERROR PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE "

errrr - how.

lol!
Well done DELLBefore I decide who is the "DOLT", answer this: did you put some batteries in the keyboard and mouse, and follow the wireless setup instructions?

Why do you have to have a smartass comment all the time? How about not jumping into EVERY thread?
Define EVERY

And its not 'all the time'

Well done DELL

A:) has nothing to do with dell. The "Halt On Error" setting in the BIOS means that when an error occurs during post it writes the description and then "press F1 to continue". So:

"Floppy disk(s) fail, Press F1 to Continue"
"Unknown Processor, Press F1 to Continue"
"BIOS Checksum error, Press F1 to Continue"
and of COURSE, if you have a keyboard error, it states the same thing.

The fact that you cannot press F1 is hardly relevant- it's simply reporting the error. Since you cannot, for all intents and purposes, Press F1 then you cannot continue.

B:) try using a PS/2 keyboard,  and disable the "Halt on Errors" option in the BIOS as well as enabling any relevant "Legacy USB support" or "USB keyboard" type options.

C:) Homer says "DOH" not "DOLT".

D:) The joke relating to the whole "Keyboard error, press F1 to continue" error is a good 25 years old
