SMEs must buy Windows

WHILE DELL MAY have made some moves TOWARDS Ubuntu Linux, it is refusing to allow its business customers to buy it.

According to one poster on an Ubuntu forum, Dell refused to sell him an Ubuntu machine for his small, non-profit business.

Cosborn72 said he wanted to support Dell in its decision to sell computers with Ubuntu installed and tried to order one.

The small business representative told him that he could not order one of the Ubuntu-based computers through the small business department. Instead cosborn72 had to go through the "home and home office" department.

linkSeems like good enough reason to go elsewhere and buy a computer with no OS and then install Ubuntu, which can be downloaded at no cost. This type of action just solidifies my belief that Dell and Linux are not going to work, just as their attempts in the past didn't work. I do hope though that I'm wrong and that it's just a rough road and it's something Dell is WORKING out.I hope so to.Here at work we use suse so yes linux is for work

And this is not a small business either. It's a CONSPIRACY!!

Gates is discounting Windoze to Dell, and in return Dell is saying and implying nasty things about linux. Win/Win for Gates and Dell.

... hey.... ya never know......

There are millions of different companies using *nix, BSD, Solaris, and other platforms. In my opinion I think Dell's just doing this because of potential value of getting more many from business users and or some deal they have with Microsoft.Yah i agree with you but you would think they would discourage not pretty much flat out say no..... Once again they will just make the linux crowd angry like what they did with the warrenty everyone COMPLAINED they brought it back almost immediatlyThey should just put Linux on the boxes they have put in WalMart...that would make things a bit interesting.

I think that would drive me CRAZY if they did all the boxes at wal-mart as linux.

You know when someone buys a computer at wal-mart for 300$ they can't figure out that when it is all messed up they still have to pay normal price to get it fixed. Such as..... Hey i think i broke it. Get it and its loaded full of viruses and spyware. They refuse a backup and format and say can't you fix it? Sure I can fix anything you tell them 120$ to remove all of the viruses and spyware and repair all of the busted up windows files on it and they have a fit! What i only paid 300$ for the computer and this and that..... Well if you had gotten an anti-virus program and don't surf pr0n 16 hours a day downloading everything that comes up we wouldn't have this problem

Actually that was more of a rant then anything else because with linux there would be less problems because less viruses for linux but anyone that does repair knows where i am coming from.I still think it would be fun.I just think it is great that linux is finally getting some good press other then the hardcore geek crowd.
