Answer»

What does check for forced flash mean?I'm guessing it means you should check for a bios update. Thanks, Allan, but the computer FREEZES at the company logo and will not enter BIOS setup. I received the E4 error when i installed a POST card. What is a POST card?Quote from: Allan on February 02, 2010, 12:37:31 PM

E4 indicates Setup pages (E1 - PAGE 1, E2 - page 2, ... etc).
Something is wrong with BIOS, did you attempt a flash and it failed?I am trying to help a friend running Vista and having the E4 code. Can I flash the BIOS with the frozen POST?Quote from: sunnet on February 02, 2010, 02:00:31 PM

Probably not, since it won't POST. It would have to BOOT a floppy disk or CD. Did your friend trash the BIOS during a flash? He tried to get help before coming to me, maybe one of those helpers tried a flash. Does this mean his only HOPE is a new Board and CPU?Quote from: sunnet on February 02, 2010, 02:40:47 PM

I assume it's a desktop and not a laptop? CPU is still good, flash CHIPS can be replaced if not soldered to the motherboard. Might be easier to replace the motherboard, if you can find one compatible with the CPU & RAM.You can also try unplugging the machine and removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes...
This won't fix a bad flash but perhaps the BIOS defaults are still there.
