Answer» Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this....
Two days ago, on April 6th, I tried to put my computer on stand-by before I go to sleep like I always do, and it seemed to go into stand-by for everything except the FAN. It keeps running every time I put it into stand-by mode. It makes the usual "click" sound as it goes into stand-by, but the fan keeps running. It's really weird. When I try to bring it back from stand-by sometimes, the computer makes three or four clicking sounds, like it's having trouble coming back from stand-by.
I can't think of a reason why, or anything that I did different, except that I had installed a new logitech 310 mouse the same day.
When I shut-down the computer, the fan shuts off. It's not really that big of a deal, but I usually like keeping my computer on stand-by instead of SHUTTING it down every night.
I have no idea if this is a SOFTWARE or a hardware problem, and I'm not that great with hardware, so any help would be appreciated. I'm good at following directions though, so if I need to post more information, let me know. The first link you may want to sit down and read is: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1019158863 This will help you to attempt fixing this similar problem.
Then here are a few links argueing the difference of leaving a computer on/standby/hibernate/sleep/or off. http://www.bcentral.com/articles/enbysk/158.asp?format=print http://www.toejumper.net/speed5/shutdown5.htm http://www.speed-geeks.com/Geek_Zone/Tips_Tricks/Windows_Basics.html#What%20is%20Standby%20mode Thanks a LOT Detox, the first link really helped . It was my new mouse after all, and I had to change the power settings to make sure the computer wasn't supplying it power after it goes on stand-by.
After checking the other three links, I GUESS it might be better to hibernate my computer instead and shut it down once a week.Excellent links Detox, I've learned something today. Thanks.
