Solve : for all BT broadband users?

Answer»

if your line speed is slow as British line's are , then here is a free accelerator from BT all you pay is £1.20 for postage and it arrived within 24 hour's , my line speed doubled in the first hour but it will take 2/3 days to get up to full speed as it keeps checking every day

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25075&s_cid=btb_FURL_acceleratorIs this a DSL or cable service?

I thought DSL speeds depends on 2 factors, the distance from the data center and the wiring you have in your house. I live in a very old house and I am subscribe to the 3Mbps, but I get about 1.5-1.6Mbps so I am losing at least half. I think more to do with the old wiring in the house then the distance.

So I WONDER how this device works?dsl , distance and wiring do not matter ,  my limit is 1.5mb but i was only getting 898 kb so i lost half as well , but it will boost it past the limit so i should finish up with about 2.5mb , thats what my neighbour 2 doors down is on With DSL, distance from either the central office or nearest fiber termination point definitely affects speeds.  Generally, home wiring won't affect speed unless it is really bad.

With DSL voice traffic and data share the same wire.  Voice traffic is at a very low frequency and data is at a higher frequency (although still very low by most standards).

BT doesn't go into details about the device, but it sounds like a filter to keep voice traffic from interfering with data.

I don't know about all DSL providers in the USA, but for the most part I think the filter is a standard part of the install. Quote from: rthompson80819 on September 14, 2010, 04:55:10 PM

It is.  When I got mine turned on it came with 4 filters.  I've never heard of a service not coming with any.My lines are bad, I did get 4 DSL filters when we first got DSL, it was real exciting "high speed" internet without having to dial up and more then one person can get on at a TIME.

What we had problems with first was, we got the 1.5Mbps plan before they decide to up everyone to 3Mbps.. We still get about 1.5Mbps, but anyways..

The first day we got DSL I followed all the instructions. Plugged all the filters to ones connecting to the phone and  unplugging phones that did not have filters. The first week we notice even though we had filters on, there was static on the line. it wasn't bad, just annoying.. Finally by the end of the month the static was so bad that we lost our dial tone so we could not make any outgoing or get any incoming calls... Plus it did not help that it knocked out our internet also.

I sent in a repair request to verizon via support ticket using a neighbor open Wifi.. ( Yes, US laws says that is illegal but how else was I suppose to contact them?) Within a few hours they sent a tech over and they went out to the lines and did something.. after that no more static and internet came back up.

I don't know if they cap your internet speed. I remember when the highest plan was 1.5Mbps then they were offering 3Mbps for the same price. I asked the verizon support center and they said I would automatically be enrolled to the higher plan and no cost. They told me the max speed I will get will be based on the quality of the phone line as well as distance from where ever they have the DSL switches.

So here I am at 1.54Mbps.. I was thinking about putting a new line to the telphone post outside (professional) but for DSL service and with Fios out I decided against it.i'm a short distance from the exchange 1 1/2 miles so that will make little difference  , it would be different if i lived 5 , 10 miles away it would be slower then , but the wiring to the house is old and will be replaced within the next 2 years , i'll be checking the speed again soon

What is the BT Broadband Accelerator?

BT Broadband Accelerator is BT's new name for the BT I-Plate.

The accelerator is a self-install device that can be fitted to your main telephone socket. It can help increase your broadband speed by reducing interference from your home telephone extension wiring. so far the improvements are

14/9/10   test    898   up to    1363  kbps

15/9/10   test   1368  up to    2268  kbps

another test to-morrowIf that's before and after, that's a nice improvement! Quote from: harry 48 on September 15, 2010, 01:30:37 PM

Hmm, that is real interesting.. According to where my IP address says I am, I am about 5.6 miles away from where the network center is, it could be farther.. I just looked up the city where the IP address is. It used to be 2.5 mies away, right downtown but I guess they moved it farther since people are using Cable or Fios in my area and move the DSL people to one area.

As for a special filter that cancel out interference.. That is something I would be interested in.. Every time there is a thunder/lightning storm in the area my internet connection keeps getting interrupted.. I would lose my internet connection  for just a sec before trying to reconnect. I hate when that happens, but I have gotten use to it.. I wonder if it will help with the interference caused by storms?Storms/rain interruptions indicate a physical issue with the lines...USUALLY from the pole to the house.
No filter in the world is going to alleviate that issue... Quote from: Windows98 on September 16, 2010, 02:48:19 PM
