Answer» right i have a huge problem i have Norton anti virus installed wich is always enabled, i forgot to mention that eventually the computer does start up but this is after many attempts. Well......LOL if it starts up ...the problem can't be that huge....... How long has it been doing this ? How often do you do a full system scan for viruses ? Do you have any anti spyware istalled ? Do you have all the latest XP updates and or SERVICE packs. Is your Norton subscription still current ? Do you have the latest Norton updates ? It the hard drive is on the way out then it could be causing your problems. As certain files are lost to bad sectors the computer might not start. If the scandisk comes BACK as 0 bad sectors found, backup and format is prob the best way to go.Also, download a registry error repair utility.
